AALIYAH TAYLOR

I AWAKENED HOURS later, tied to a chair, some kind of wire cutting painfully into my wrists-bounding my hands behind my back. I blinked feverishly, in efforts to regain my vision. I looked around; hoping there was something-anything-that I could use to cut the wire, but the room was empty, aside from the table that sat in front of me. The four concrete walls swallowed me and there was no source of light, apart from the flickering light bulb that hung from the ceiling. I pulled at my wrists, attempting to set myself free, but there was no use. The only way out of here was a tall metal door, which was decorated by a number of different locks.
My head pounded, and I racked my brain for the events that brought me to where I was. Tiny pieces of the night before came back to me-and as for the parts I didn't remember, it was left up to my imagination to fill in the blanks.
"You're up." He spoke, laughing in a discourteous manner; which caused me to jump.
He circled around the chair, his heavy footsteps taunting me. He finally stopped right in front of me, his scent invading my nostrils. I forced myself to look up at him, instantly regretting it. His normally hazel colored orbs had darkened drastically, holding an unknown emotion in them.
"W-where am I?" I asked, as I looked around the small room once more.
He smirked, sitting on the edge of the table that sat in front of me.
"My basement... You really thought I'd let you go after last night?" He spoke in a monotonous tone.
Right, last night.
"Speaking of last night, let's talk about what you saw."
"I-I don't remember anything." I lied, attempting to hide the abundant amount of fear coursing throughout my veins.
He chuckled lowly, pushing himself off of the table. He placed a finger under my chin, tilting my head upwards, forcing me to look into his dark, emotionless eyes.
"What did you see last night, Aaliyah?" He questioned, his voice soft yet powerful.
My breath hitched at his use of my first name. I had known this man for almost two full weeks, and he had never once used my first name. It sounded so sweet coming from his lips.
"I told you, I don't remember anything." I stated, causing him to frown.
"I don't like liars, Aaliyah. So, I'll ask once more; what did you see last night?" His voice came out lower, sending shivers down my spine.
"Y-you killed that man." I confessed, gulping as he stared at me.
"Hm, now that wasn't so hard. Was it?"
He rounded me, his deafening footsteps stopping behind me. A few seconds went by, and I started to believe he had left the room. That was, until I felt the wires being loosened from around my wrists. Once my wrists were free, I pulled them from behind my back, rubbing at the sore skin.
"What are y-you going to do with me?" I asked quietly as I broke eye contact with him.
His gaze was too intense.
"Don't worry, Tesoro. If I wanted you dead, I would've already killed you." He chuckled darkly.
(Sweetheart)
"Laurelle!" I heard him shout.
A few seconds passed before a short woman entered the room. She had light brown highlights adorning her naturally dark brown hair. Her tanned skin glowed-no visible flaws. It took me a few minutes to realize that she was the woman from last night.
"Yes Boss?" The woman recited, a small smirk playing on her lips as she spotted me.
"Take her to the vacant room." He said impassively.
She nodded, signaling for me to follow her. Offering her a small smile, I rose from the chair I had been sitting on and followed behind Laurelle.
We walked out of the room, down a long, beaten up hallway with rooms and doors just like the one I was in. We reached the end of the hallway and another metal door stood in our way. This door had a keypad next to it, where Laurelle quickly typed in a four digit code before pushing the door open.
The door opened and we were exposed to a modern foyer. Classic paintings hung on the wall, a glass table sat right next to a glass door. I could see a yard. Maybe this was an exit. We crossed an enormous living room, which seemed to be bigger than my whole apartment. Laurelle walked to the staircase and I followed behind her like a stray dog.
We reached the top of the staircase and Laurelle lead me all the way to the end off the hall. She stopped in front of a white door and stuck the key inside the keyhole, turning right until a clicking sound was heard. She pushed the door open and guided me inside the room. I walked inside the room, biting down on my lip.
The room had a dark burgundy tint. In the corner, against the wall was a queen sized bed. The sheets were black, which went with the black chest of drawer that stood on the other side of the room. In the far corner was a white, fully body mirror. There were two other doors in the room. One of which I believed to be a bathroom, and the other a closet.
"This is your new room." Laurelle said, smiling.
"What's going to happen to me?" I asked, causing her smile to falter.
"If it were up to me, I'd kill you. You're a loose end; loose ends only cause problems. But, Boss clearly has other plans for you. The only thing I know for a fact is that you're not going anywhere." Laurelle answered, causing me to gulp.
I crossed the room, throwing myself on the bed. Laurelle watched me warily and I sighed.
"You don't have to babysit me. I'm twenty-two." I sassed.
"I'm trusting you. The drawer and closet has clothes that should be your size. That door leads to the bathroom. If you need anything, I'm across the hall." Laurelle says before leaving the room.
I felt my pockets for my phone, but to my dismay, it was gone. I sighed, laying flat on my back. My eyes began to feel heavy and I soon drifted off to sleep.

Hours later, Laurelle returned with a tray of food. She set the tray on the bed, in front of me before offering me a smile.
"I know you're hungry." Laurelle said, causing me to let out a small chuckle.
She was right.
She signaled for me to begin eating and I did, not knowing when I'd next get a meal. Laurelle took a cautious step towards me, and I let out a laugh, letting her know it was alright for her to take a seat on the bed.
She did so, smiling at me.
"You'll meet everyone tomorrow morning, alright?" Laurelle asked.
"Who else is there to meet?" I questioned as I ate.
"A few people." Laurelle said.
I hummed in response as I continued to eat. We sat in silence for a bit before Laurelle rose from the bed. She began to make her way to the door, stopping just before she walked out.
"Don't worry, Aaliyah. It's not too bad here, you'll see." Laurelle said.
She walked out of the room, leaving me all alone.
