AALIYAH TAYLOR

|||

I SCURRIED INTO the office, waiting for Reid to join me. He closed the door behind him as he walked into the office.

I looked around the rather large office. A tall, dark walnut bookcase lined the entire left-hand wall. There was a leather sofa with a fur rug over the back and an Indian blanket draped over the arm. The far wall had a large fireplace and mantle dominating the center, bookshelves lining it on either side.

On the mantle, were two antique clocks and a painting of three jazz musicians. There was a television on the shelf to the right. In front of that shelf was an upright piano and bench in dark walnut. The desk was a large walnut piece-rather imposing, with glass over the top. The chair was Captain style on wheels with a leather seat and back. To the left behind me is another bookshelf atop a matching file cabinet. The ceiling fan kept the air moving in an otherwise enclosed space.

"So, you were just going to stand at the door and not knock?" He asked, gaining my attention.

I shrugged, refusing to make eye contact with him. I could feel his heated gaze on me. I dug my nails into my palm as I felt a sea of anxiety threatening to wash over me.

To say I was nervous would be an understatement.

"What did you need?" He asked, his heavy footsteps taunting me as he made his way over to me; stopping directly in front of me.

I trained my eyes on his shoes, taking a deep breath. Reid's hand flew up, causing me to flinch. He took my face in his  hand, tilting my head up; forcing me to look at him. His light brown  orbs were void of any emotion. My body tensed at his touch.

"I expect you to look at me when you're speaking to me." He demanded huskily.

I found myself nodding at his words. I took another deep breath, in  attempt to calm myself down, but it didn't work. My palms grew sweaty,  causing me to rub them on my pants.

"Now, tell me what you need." He said.

I gulped.

"L-Laurelle told me about the rules." I said, causing him to raise an eyebrow.

"You don't like them?" He asked and I shook my head.

"What do you want me to change, then?" Reid asked.

I was genuinely surprised by this question. I didn't think Reid would actually consider changing the rules; especially with us barely even knowing each other for a week.

"Well for starters, I don't see why I need to ask you to go out. And I don't I need a curfew, I'm a grown woman. I also don't understand why I can't have my phone back-. " I started, only to be cut off by Reid.

"All the rules I've set in place are for your greater good, Aaliyah. There are people in this world that want me dead, and they'll take anyone I'm in contact with to get to me. Weather you want to acknowledge it or not, you're a target now." Reid explained, causing me to sigh.

"I understand that, but-."

"No buts, Aaliyah." Reid cut me off once again.

I let out a loud sigh, throwing my arms up in defeat.

"Anything else?" Reid asked impatiently.

"No." I answered.

Not wanting to argue, I walked up the stairs, making my way to my room. Throwing myself on the bed, I sighed.

I completely understood why Reid wouldn't change the rules, however, it still upset me. As I thought, I slowly began to fall into a deep sleep.
