XZ:
Xiao Zhan let Wang Yibo choose where to sit. It was the least he could do. After all, he doubted his employer would even be here if it weren't for him.
'You order.' Wang Yibo told Xiao Zhan without even looking at the menu.
'Hey! Are you that disgusted by this place? You won't even look at the menu.' Xiao Zhan teased. Wang Yibo smirked and Xiao Zhan immediately knew he was done for.
'What happened to live a little?' Yep, Xiao Zhan was done for 'If I'm correct, and I'm normally correct, to live a little is to live adventurously, which means live an unplanned and surprise-filled life. Going to a restaurant you've never been to before, not getting to choose what you want to eat, isn't that considered somewhat adventurous?'
'I mean there are more adventurous things you could be doing.' Xiao Zhan answered nonchalantly as his eyes scanned the menu.
'I've probably done everything that you can think of.' Wang Yibo challenged his employee.
'Um... eat at McDonalds' Xiao Zhan mocked.
'Please, I'm not that boring.' Wang Yibo rolled his eyes.
'Fine, gone on a hike.' Xiao Zhan tried again.
'Probably been on more hikes than you.'
'Slept outside in the rain.'
'Not good for health. It's very hard to sleep in the rain, just saying; it's loud, cold... wet..' Wang Yibo sneered at the memory.
'Shopped in a street market.'
'I mean I don't really go shopping myself but yes, in emergencies especially.'
'What do you mean by emergencies?'
'You'll never know.'
'Ugh. What have you not done.' Xiao Zhan asked frustrated.
'Nothing.' Wang Yibo offered him a rather taunting smile.
'I bet... you've never worked for the government.' This was something Xiao Zhan was almost sure of. He had never seen any record of Wang Yibo having been associated with the government.
'I mean, you don't know that?' Wang Yibo replied but Xiao Zhan swore it sounded more like a question than an answer.
'Ha! So you haven't!.' Xiao Zhan replied, filling out the form on their table, having decided what he wanted to eat.
'In a sense.' Wang Yibo answered.
'Huh?' Xiao Zhan was confused... again. 'So you have worked for the government?'
'In a sense.'
'I give up.' Xiao Zhan groaned.

WYB:
Wang Yibo had no idea why he did that. He should've lied. Should've just straight up told Xiao Zhan that no, he didn't have any association with the government at all. Xiao Zhan looked confused which assured Yibo a little but at the same time only added to his worry. He only hoped that Xiao Zhan would take it as a joke and not look into this matter any more.
He wasn't going to lie, he really had never had food at a street restaurant before. It wasn't out of disgust or revulsion but because he felt that the setting was a little too open for his liking. Considering his position, his main job, his side job - he had no idea which was which - he normally avoided crowded areas unless absolutely necessary. He was quite surprised when he found himself accepting Xiao Zhan's invitation but he had to admit, who could say no to this man? For one, it was definitely worth seeing that momentary twinkle of joy and complete surprise in his eyes, it was genuine joy and it somehow managed to brighten up his somewhat gloomy day.
He didn't interrupt as he listened to his employee ramble on about his day. For the first time in his life, Wang Yibo actually found listening to someone rant about something useless, not annoying.
'Yibo?' Xiao Zhan called out hesitantly.
'Yes?' Wang Yibo replied.
'Are you sure you don't want to take a look at the menu?'
'Yes.'
'I'm about to put in ou- my order.' Xiao Zhan explained.
'Ok.' Wang Yibo half smiled.
He watched Xiao Zhan walk away from the table, thinking to himself, If anyone calls me or interrupts my lunch, I don't care who they are, they better watch themself.
Xiao Zhan soon returned and Wang Yibo found himself wanting to let go, for just a while. He wanted to let go of routine, plans and rules for just a while, just like Xiao Zhan said. But he couldn't. What if someone decides to attack him? What if someone decides to attack Xiao Zhan? What if Xiao Zhan decides to attack him? He had no idea why, but he had felt uneasy ever since they first stepped into that stinky taxi. He felt even more uneasy when they stepped into the restaurant. He couldn't tell whether it was because he was trying something new, or if his instincts were just acting up, telling him that something was going to happen.
But... What could happen here?
'Yibo are you ok?' a gentle voice pulled him from his reverie.
'Yes of course.' Wang Yibo smiled.
'You looked like you're here but not here?' Xiao Zhan frowned at him, 'does that make sense?'
'Yes but no.' Wang Yibo almost lifted his hand, feeling a strange urge to reach over and smooth away the wrinkles on Xiao Zhan's forehead. 'Does that make sense?'
Xiao Zhan's frown disappeared, replaced by a smile and Yibo felt his heart lighten. 'What were you thinking about?' Xiao Zhan was persistent.
'Nothing out of the ordinary.' Wang Yibo answered.
'What? No witty remark? You're not going to tell me to mind my own business?' Xiao Zhan continued.
'Do you want me too?' Yibo asked.
'No?' Xiao Zhan gave him his answer.
'Then just today.' Wang Yibo chuckled. 'I won't tell you to mind your business but just for today.'
