WYB:
It was final. Now that he knew the reason behind this young man's anger, he couldn't leave. Wang Yibo couldn't leave. Not until he finds out who revealed his secret.
'I don't know what you're talking about.' Wang Yibo feigned confusion. 'What operation? Wang Communications? We're a business not some shady operation. What do you have against Wang Communications?' He didn't give the skinny boy any time to answer. Wang Yibo intended to push, just keep pushing through the child's anger and hopefully get the answer he desired.
'You know what I'm talking about.' The boy sneered, but his eyes, his stance and his loosening grip on the young girl's throat told Yibo to just keep pressuring.
'No actually I don't.' Yibo could see the boy's eyes searching his expression, thinking, trying to pull his act apart, looking for a crack in the blank expression. Anything. Looking for anything that could indicate that he was lying. But there was none. How could there be any? Wang Yibo was a master at lying. A mere waiter had no chance of catching him.
Yibo was planting a seed of doubt and the only thing he had to do now was water it once in a while and wait for it to grow.
'But Jin Gu-' The boy paused mid-sentence. Jin who? The only "Jin" Wang Yibo could think of was dead, for a long time too. Yibo was just about to water his seed of doubt a little more when an elderly woman rushed out of the kitchen. This must be his mum.
'What did I say about hurting my customers?' She shrieked at her son, grabbing his arm and freeing the young girl.
Wang Yibo saw this as an opportunity. He grabbed Xiao Zhan's arm and rushed towards the exit, turning around to see the skinny boy's crazed expression morph into anger. His eyes looked glossy and his skinny fingers turned pale as his right arm clenched round the kitchen knife tighter. The muscles on his face were tense and taught and even though Yibo was a long way away, he could see the boy's teeth grit together as he tried to hold his anger in.
But he failed.
Wang Yibo saw it before it came. He grabbed Xiao Zhan and pressed his head against his own shoulder and watched silently. The boy's knife dug into warm flesh and blood spilled from the fresh wound.
Wang Yibo wrapped his long fingers round Xiao Zhan's head and held tighter, covering his ears best he could.
'MUM!' the girl who'd just been broken free from the skinny man's grip yelled across the room, tears streaming down her face. So they were siblings. Wang Yibo's heart couldn't help but clench a little for this small family. To watch a parent die in front of your very eyes and not be able to do anything to stop it, was a feeling Wang Yibo was very familiar with.
He looked over at the skinny waiter. The boy's arms were shaking and the fire was gone from his eyes. All that was left was complete and utter shock. That strange crazed look he had on him before had completely dissolved and all that was left, was a very lost, very confused, young soul.
Wang Yibo felt Xiao Zhan struggle in his grip but refused to let go. He dragged Xiao Zhan out of the restaurant, leaving the young boy and his family, refusing to let go until he managed to call a taxi and force Xiao Zhan into it.
They were both silent. Wang Yibo expected Xiao Zhan to say something. Ask questions, complain, but he didn't.
The entire ride back home was silent. Just silence.
