Chapter 1: Why Hayes Grier?

*Sofia's Pov*
My name is Sofia Salazar and I live in North Carolina across the street from the Grier's. Yes as in Hayes Grier, Nash Grier and Skylynn Grier. Hayes and I attend the same school, Ridge Wood Academy and we're both 13, but his birthday is before mine. I've only spoken to him once after middle school started when he lost Skylynn and asked if she was at my place. My parents and the Grier's are very close. It's awkward when I go to their house. I'll tell you later. Hayes and I were like brother and sister until we begun middle school and he made friends very quickly. As for me, it took awhile. Hayes basically left me for popularity. Best friends over being more popular? Apparently he wasn't allowed to hang out with me because of my popularity rank. That's why it was awkward when I came over. I wasn't the least popular though, but I wasn't the highest. I was rank #109 out of #126 students in the 8th Grade. The most popular girl in school, Elizabeth made up the popularity rank. She has the whole list at her house. Whenever she sees someone do something embarrassing you drop a rank. And she created an app that says everyone's rank. It's embarrassing because I drop a rank almost everyday and everyone in 8th grade gets notified about it. Did I mention Hayes and Elizabeth are dating? They've been dating since 7th grade. Exactly 19 days after he left me. You may think I'm jealous because I keep mentioning Hayes, but the truth is that Hayes and I were crushing on each other the summer before 7th grade. Elizabeth was pretty and tall and caught his attention. He then joined the football team and became #2 on the ranking list. I don't even know if I still like Hayes because he talks about me behind my back. He spills all the secrets I told him as a kid. Most of the time I come home crying, but I make sure nobody sees me. But eventually Hayes always does cause we walk home together. Well not together, but he walks on the other side of the street. I miss the old him. I really do. I have a couple friends in school, but my really close friends are Anna and Michele. They are not like me at all. Anna and Michele are actually way more popular but they hangout with me. I always wonder why, but I'm thankful for that. Anna is #29 on the ranking because she is dating Matthew Espinosa and Michele is #46 but she's going up every day because she is hanging out with Kian Lawley a lot. Back to Hayes, after all we've been through, he throws it all way for popularity. His brother, Nash is famous so people (who he so calls his friends) just use him for his looks, fame, or to get to Nash. I never used him for Nash. Why Hayes Grier?
