“Kids, go to the hall,” I commanded. I needed to tell the others.

I run into the arena.

“Can I just have a quick word with you,” I asked. They all came over; we formed a huddle.

“They are on to us. We need to have I assembly to throw them off. I have sent most of the classes to the hall already,” I said.

“Ok, I’ll get the rest of them. You lot just head down to the hall with these,” Midnight said. The plan was put into action. We took the children down to the hall. There found the rest throwing stuff, shouting and climbing on the chairs. Midnight was there a few minutes after us. She made them quiet.

“Know you’ve all been called here today because we have heard about some rumours and we wanted to put an end to them so we will tell you if they are true or not. Now put your hands up if you know about a rumour.” she said. Lots of people put their hands up, we went through them. Then we came to an interesting one,

“Yes, you in the sparkly pink headband.” Midnight said.

“There’s a rumour that you and Adam are dating.” she said.

“No way, am I going out with that piece of shit.” Midnight shouted “Now next rumour.” Ooh, burn. Ouch that must have hurt. She pointed to a small boy on the back row. I couldn’t hear him.

“Can you say that again?” Midnight asked. Everyone started to shake their heads at him. They really didn’t want him to. He said it again but still we couldn’t hear it.

“Can someone pass him a microphone?” Midnight said. I picked up a spare microphone and walked towards the back. I gave the boy the microphone.

“There is a rumour that Adam is a vampire.” the boy said. I looked to the front and did everyone else waiting for the answers. Their faces (year 10s) were frozen in shock, every single one was shocked. The students started mumbling to each other

“The rumours true.”

“Why are they surprised?”

Finally one stood up on a chair and said,

“It’s true, isn’t it? You let a monster in the school. We’re relying to you to us safe and you are sneaking a monster in to the school. Well, it’s time to take matters into our own hands.”

They all cheer and put out pencils but these weren’t pencils. They were mini stakes. They had taken out the graphite of the middle and sharpened it. They charge at him; he ran through the doorway and up the stairs. Midnight came between them and the door way.

“Go sit back down.” she roared.

“You’re not in charge anymore.” said the boy who had given the speech.

“You want a bet.” she said; grabbed him by the ear and yanked him up the stairs. I followed shutting the double doors behind me. She yanked him up the stairs and past Adam. He gave a confused expression.

“What is she doing?” whispered Adam.

“I don’t know.” I whispered back. She dragged the boy all the way to the arena. We went down to the dungeons and went through a door at the end of the corridor. I had never been in this room before I looked round. It looked like a torture chamber. Midnight dragged him towards a big chair.

“That’s an electric chair.” Adam said.

“Stand there.” commanded Midnight to the boy. She flicks a switch and the chair lights up ready.

“Midnight, you’re not going to put him that thing.” Adam said.

“Yes, I Am.” she snapped.

Adam stood between the chair and them.

“You are not torturing him.” Adam stated.

“He needs to learn his lesson.” Midnight replied.

“He learned his lesson when you dragged around by his ear.” he answered “You’ve scared him enough.”

They shared an intense stare. Then she finally said,
“Fine.” she turns to the boy “you’re lucky he was here or you would be electrocuted now.” She starts to make her way back the boy in front of her, me behind her and Adam at the back of us. She opens the door to the hall. Everyone is still standing there waiting for us to come back. They looked very concerned, probably because of the crazed look on Midnight face. As soon as they saw the boy in one piece and they relaxed. Then Adam came out and they remembered what they were doing.

“No, stop. He’s ok,” said the boy.

They looked at him as if he was out of his mind.

“Are you sure?” asked another student.

“Yes, I am sure,” replied the boy.

That was the end of that.
