Chapter 24

I was on the first floor. I started to peer into windows. Most rooms were empty but there were a few surprises in some of the rooms. I found the biggest collection of guns I’ve ever seen and in another room I found blood, puddles of it in the middle of the floor. In the corner of the room, there was a dead body and down the wall drizzled blood. It stained the wall with its velvet colour. I looked like they were thrown at the wall as the wall had cracked in one place in the same spot there was also blood. It was strange. I thought they would have cleaned it up. On the other side of the room I find a large metal door. It had five locks. What is it with people and five locks? The door was swung open and lead to a set of steep stairs. Carefully, I climbed down the stairs and into the darkness. I felt along the wall for a switch, when I found it I looked around the room. There was a single cage, it was open the keys hung from the lock. Dust covered the cage except for the bars on the door. You could see hand prints.  I looked around some more there was nothing else in the room.

Besides that there was nothing on that floor. I met back up with the rest of them no one could find him. We had checked every floor and no one could find him.

“Sorry everyone for the delay but I’m afraid the vampire has escaped.” a voice said. What? Adam’s gone- well no wonder we couldn’t find him. Moans filled the room and the crowd that was previously around the stage was now going outside through the hatch into the open desert. We followed the crowd they climbed into cars that were hidden behind rocks.

“So what do we do now?” Midnight asked.

“We go back to the school and he’s there.” Amy said.

“And what if he isn’t.” Dan asked.

“Well how should I know, dumbass.” Amy snarled.

“I think we should go home.” I said.

“I think we should look around the desert for him,” Chantelle said.

“That will take too long,” Dan asked.

 “How about we ask Midnight then.” Amy said.

“Fine, what do you think Midnight.” Chantelle asked. There was a long silence.

“Midnight, where are you.” Bella shouted. I looked round and all I saw was the barren wasteland of the desert. She was gone.

“Great we’ve lost Midnight.” Chantelle said “I think we may have to get a rope so we don’t lose anyone else.”

“Maybe we should go home.” Dan said.

“I agree.” Bella said “something doesn’t feel right.”

“What do you mean ‘something doesn’t feel right?” Amy said.

“I have a bad feeling about this place.” Bella said.

“You have a bad feeling about the desert.” Chantelle said slightly sarcastically.

“Not the wholes desert just this part of it. But never mind I think we should just get back to the school.” Bella said.

“Agreed.” I said and we headed back to the jet, which was in West Virginia so it took a while, when we finally made it back we were greeted by a small group of people. It was Lucy and Britney but there were some year 7s.

“Why aren’t you working.” Amy asked.

“Because while you were gone most of the school left. We got their parents to pick them up.” Lucy said.

“Why haven’t they gone and what about the year 11s they should have come back today.” Amy said.

“The year 11s haven’t come back yet and these can’t go back home.” Britney said.

“Have any of you seen Adam?” Bella asked.

“No.” Britney answered.

“What about Midnight?” I asked.

“No.” Britney repeated.

“Why?” Lucy asked.

“Because they are both missing.” Dan said.

“That’s weird.” Britney said “I mean both of them on the day. Are you sure there isn’t any connection?”

“As far as we know, no.” Chantelle said.

“Well, I it may be time to come inside and get some rest. It’s getting late and we still haven’t eaten.” Lucy said.

“You’re right, we should all get some rest.” Chantelle agreed.

So Bella and I cook up a meal and we all sat in silence. After I went to my dormitory with Chantelle and Bella, I couldn’t sleep that night. I kept tossing and turning in my bed remembering the events of that day.

SMASH. There was a noise coming from the hall.
