We hid behind menus, only two tables away; we started to ease drop on their conversation.
"So you looking forward to the start of the M-games?" he asked.
"Not really." Midnight answered.
"Why?"
"I find it boring and pointless. Plus it's cruel to the monsters."
"But they're monsters."
"Not all monsters are evil, just most of them."
"Wow it's really weird to hear you say that. I never thought of you were so kind. No offences but you are kind of intimidating." I agreed with him. When I first met her I thought the same.
"None taken." she said.
"Are you excited for the dance?"
"No, if you can't tell I'm not into that kind of stuff. What's the point in wearing a tight dress, layering make up on and putting your hair in a quiff just impress some guy for one night because you're going to see him tomorrow. Why can't people be themselves?"
"People are afraid to be themselves because of people like Amy."
"I hate that girl."
"I think I got that when you all most knocked her unconscious." he said it smirking.
"Well Mr Carter told us to throw harder punches." she said smirking back.
"That didn't mean trying to knock her out."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes but I'm not complaining that you tried. I am getting fed up of her myself ever since she saw that poster for the dance she been trying to get me to ask her."
"Why haven't you then? You know she'll find a way to make you." she said.
"I haven't asked her because I have someone else in mind."
He said. He isn't going to..... Is he?
"Well I would love to carry on this conversation but I'm going to get a coffee while the line is short. I mean we did come here for coffee. Do you want anything?"
"No, I'll wait a bit longer." he said while slight disappointment in his voice. Midnight went to the counter, ordered and waited there. Adam slumped slightly in his chair. It stayed like that for a couple of minutes and then she came back with her coffee.
"So besides the fact you want to ask someone else, why wouldn't you ask Amy to the dance? Aren't you afraid she'll torture you?" she asked.
"No, but the other reason I wouldn't ask her is: it's what people expect."
"So you want to break past the norm."
"That's right," he said sternly "but enough about me what about you."
"Well, I had to grow up fast, too fast. I had to do most of the work in my home and had to get a job early. Every place I've been I'm always misunderstood for who I am. My own parents hate me for what I believe." She explained.
"Wow. I'm sorry, I asked."
"No need to be sorry." They stare into each other's eyes. They blaze brighter than before and are more intense. Like one is trying to work out the other. I saw Amy strut into the cafeteria. She spots me and walks over.
"What are you doing weirdoes?" Amy snapped at me.
"Sssssssshhhhhhhhhh." I said quietly.
"Why are you hiding behind menus?"
"Sssssssshhhhhhhhhh."
"Stop doing that!"
"Keep your voice down or they'll see us."
"What the hell are you talking about? I think you need help darling."
I simply ignore her and kept watching them. She looked at me and followed my line of vision. She saw them and started to stomp her way to them in her pink stiletto heels. Well it was nice while it lasted.
