Sophie Foster leaned back against the wall with a satisfied sigh. She had moved into her new house just two weeks ago, and had finally finished unpacking all her boxed-up belongings. Finally being able to enjoy her now completed room, Sophie walked around taking it all in. She eventually wandered over to her window. She had a nice view of her new neighborhood. That was all good, but now that she was all unpacked and unoccupied, she had WAY too much time to worry about school.
She had never really fit in at her previous schools, and the thought of having to go to a new high school being that new kid, terrified her. What if she completely ruined her reputation? What if she had no friends and people sat by her at lunch out of pity? What if no one sat by her at lunch? Sophie tugged out an eyelash, a nervous habit.
Sophie took a deep breath. If she didn't keep herself occupied, she would have no eyelashes left by the time school started, which would definitely make her stand out, the polar opposite of what she wanted. Just as she was beginning to calm down, her miniature pony Silveny barreled into her room, followed by a bushy tail that Sophie assumed belonged to her mischievous squirrel Iggy.
Sophie's parents were both vets that tended to seriously injured animals. Silveny and Iggy were rescue animals, that eventually became Sophie's pets. Silveny had escaped from her previous owner and wandered out into the street, searching for some food (as usual). Unfortunately for her, a car had driven by, knocking her over. The tire of the car had rolled over her front leg, creating serious damage for the poor little pony. The owner's couldn't afford the surgery needed to fix her up, and so Sophie's family had took her in and had both payed for and performed the necessary surgery.
Iggy was the result of eleven-year-old Sophie going with her mother, Edaline, to an animal shelter. Sophie had seen the bushy brown squirrel, and decided she couldn't let the sweet, or so she thought, creature stay at that "horrible place." Edaline, being a bit of a pushover herself, relented easily, letting Sophie bring the trouble-making squirrel home.
Seeing as Silveny was the newest addition to Sophie's family, and received much of the attention, Iggy didn't like her to much. As a result he took great pleasure in tormenting the poor pony, by ruthlessly chasing at every available opportunity. Silveny was terrified of her, and couldn't seem to understand that she was much bigger than the tiny squirrel.
Silveny's eyes were wide with terror as Iggy chased her around Sophie's room. Sophie quickly scooped up the squirrel before they either ruined her newly unpacked room, or Silveny fainted of fear. " \Oh Iggy, what am I going to do with you?" Sophie thought as she placed the little troublemaker in his cage. Iggy glared spitefully at her, making her laugh.
Sophie let Silveny out of her room, and the pony trotted happily away, probably to scout for the treats that Edaline had hidden in an attempt to slim down the slightly obese pony . Sophie finally sank back onto her twin bed and held her blue stuffed elephant Ella to her chest. It was in her nature to worry about school, but she decided than and there that she was going to try(she made no promises)to forget about school and what might happen. She wanted to forget her worries, and enjoy the two weeks of summer vacation that she had left.
