Throughout all of Sophie's classes, she could barely contain her excitement. Why? Today was the day that the drama club results would be posted. Her thoughts had been racing all weekend, and even when she was doing chores at the barn, her excitement kept her distracted from the dullness of her chores.
When Sophie had talked to Dex that morning on their way to school, and Dex had teased her, saying that she already knew that she wouldn't be having a part in the play anyways, so why was she so excited? To be honest, Sophie didn't really have a reason to be nervous for herself, but she was excited to see who got what parts. If Stina got Cinderella, Sophie was going to pass out.
As Sophie was walking to her next class, she had an idea. Because of her "nutrition break," she had ten minutes to kill, and she knew the perfect way to do it. She walked into the office where Ms. Lexx, a young, pretty, honey-haired, secretary sat printing some papers. You could see a mischievous glint in her eyes, even through a pair of clear eyeglasses. Rumor had it that Ms. Lexx had graduated very early from college, so that she could get the job at the high school.
Ms. Lexx was supposedly just as much, if not more, of a gossip as Marella, and she reportedly had some relation to the Vacker family, but no one knew what it was. Sophie wasn't much of a gossiper, so she silently thanked Marella for providing the background on Ms. Lex the week before.
When Ms. Lexx saw Sophie, she straightened up. "Oh, hey!" she said, grinning, and flashing her startlingly white teeth. "And you are . . . "
"Sophie." Sophie replied. "Sophie Foster."
Ms. Lexx leaned in, her eyes laced with excitement. "Oh!" she said excitedly. "You're Sophie. I've heard so much about you!"
Marella. Sophie blushed. "That's me." she commented, lamely, planning to have a little chat with her friend later.
"Ms. Lexx--" Sophie started, but Ms. Lexx cut her off.
"Oh, just call me Stephanie or Steph!" the secretary beamed. "None of that formality." she waved her hand as if just the idea was ridiculous.
"Oh. Okay .. . Ms. . . Stephanie," Sophie continued awkwardly. "Well, me, and my friends, we auditioned for the drama club."
Ms. Lexx nodded in understanding. "You want to see the parts early?" she guessed.
Sophie shifted, wondering if this had been a bad idea. "Oh, well, if it's okay, that would be great."
Ms. Lexx smiled again. "Of course, girlfriend!" she said. She wheeled around in her swivel chair, and grabbed a sheet of paper. "I haven't pinned these on the bulletin boards yet, so if you could keep this kinda hush-hush, that would be awesome."
Sophie nodded vigorously, and her eyes popped when she saw what the list said.
