Buckle up. It's a long one. Because you are so awesome!! *Virtually gives you a present/long chapter wrapped in KotLC wrapping paper* Kk, I'll stop rambling. Enjoy! :)))
Sophie blinked, aghast. "You want me to do dance?" She exclaimed, thinking back to her dancing with Valin, and her traumatic, bloody, ballet experience. Both were shudder-worthy.
Edaline shook her head, a little quickly, as if she was also thinking about the ballet disaster. "No. Not dance." she said, spreading butter on a slice of toast. "But, I do know that today is the last day to sign up for most clubs and sports, and I want you to join one or two of them."
Sophie moaned internally. Sports and Sophie: Disaster. Clubs and Sophie: Boredom. "But what if there's nothing fun?" she protested. "Besides, I'm a pretty fast runner, and I go on runs for exercise. I could do cross-country, but it started weeks ago! It's too late to join."
Edaline smiled. "I don't know, honey." she said setting the toast on a plate. "But, I just want you to do something involved with your school. Maybe try some new things out."
Sophie sighed and nodded, taking the plate from Edaline. Edaline sat down at the table besides Sophie. Grady was at the barn, so the two of them ate breakfast on their own. Edaline and Sophie made small talk, as they munched on their pieces of buttered toast.
Sophie checked her watch. Time to meet Dex. She pecked Edaline on the cheek, grabbed her flute and backpack, and dashed out the door. As they walked, Dex teased her ruthlessly about how he was going to use his dare.
Dex laughed. "I actually don't know what I'm going to use it for." he smiled, dimples showing. "I guess I'm just waiting for the perfect moment."
Sophie glanced at the mischievous look on his face. "I was wondering why I felt so worried." she asked, teasing right back.
Dex shrugged, clearly trying to look innocent. He also looked a little bit . . . nervous, for some reason. Speaking of nervous,
"Oh!" Sophie exclaimed. "I forgot to ask. Are there any . . . clubs that are fun, here?" she sighed. "Edaline's wants me to do something "involved with the school," whatever that means."
Dex chuckled. "Sounds about right." he shrugged again. "The soccer team is the main thing that takes up my after school time, so I wouldn't be the right person to ask."
"Okay." Sophie said, sighing. "Thanks anyways."
When they had reached the school, Dex waved. "Good luck with that club stuff. See you at lunch!" He trotted off, and Sophie waved back.
Sophie listened closely in all of her morning classes, but she just wasn't interested in any of the clubs her teachers mentioned. In Mr. Fintan's, he talked about track and field team. Ha. With Mr. Fintan, it would be more like a torture squad. In science, Madam Galvin talked about her science club, which sounded like a disaster to Sophie. Then, something did peak her interest in band.
