"So, what did you do this weekend?" Dex inquired, as the two walked to school, like usual.

"Well, Grady and Edaline were in another town caring for an injured animal, so I got to sleep over at the Vacker's house." she responded, casualy. When she looked over, she was startled to see that Dex looked like she'd said something to personally offend him.

"Great." he griped, shoving his hands deep into his pockets.

Sophie cocked her head in confusion. "What?" she asked.

"Wonderboy." he stated staunchly. "You spent an ENTIRE weekend with Wonderboy!"

Sophie blushed. "Oh come on, Dex." she said. "I did basically everything with Biana. Besides. Keefe was there too."

Dex's scowl deepened. "Fantastic." he deadpanned. "Just fantastic. "The Hair" just joined the party."

Sophie furrowed her brow. "Dex, what's so bad about that? These people are . . .  super nice!"

Dex held up fingers as he listed. "One, they're Vackers. Two, they're basketball, and football jocks! Three, I'M your best friend. . .not them."

Sophie sighed. Dex could be almost as stubborn as Grady, and that was saying something. "Well." Sophie countered. "One, they're also my friends. Two, they're really nice! Three, I'm going to introduce you to them at lunch."

Dex sighed loudly, and then he crossed his arms. "Fine." he grouched. "But they get one chance. Only ONE. If they blow it, then you can't try to make me like them."

Sophie had to laugh. There was no way  anything  would go wrong. After all, her new friends were practically perfect.

                                                                                 ****************

Sophie walked with Dex to lunch, just like every day. The two grabbed their lunchboxes, and sat down. Marella was sitting with a different group of friends today. The two ate, and chatted. Finally, they had both finished their lunches. Sophie was planning on getting up to go find her new friends, but Biana surprised her by coming over on her own.
