Sophie raced after Biana. They were running through the Vacker's enourmous yard, and Sophie's lungs were screaming. Thankfully, Biana had mercy on her.
"I'll keep looking by foot, and you climb up onto the roof to see if you can spot the gnome." Yes, they were using a plastic garden gnome, as a flag for Base Quest. Why? Keefe thought it would be hilarious for them to have to search for "Yogi, the Yogurt Gnome." Appearently Keefe had named it Yogi, and only after he named it he realized that Yogi was the name of a yogurt made for dogs. Hence the riddiculous name.
"But-" Sophie tried to protest, but Biana had already sped away. How does she have that much energy? Sophie wondered, bewilldered, as nervously walked over to the Vacker's mansion. Sophie spotted an old fashioned, steel, ladder resting against the side of the mansion. That was the only visible way to acess the roof. Hopefully, it was sturdy. . .
Sophie took a breath, and began to climb. When you have a five-story mansion, there are a lot of latter rungs, and a lot of chances that you are going to slip and fall. And break something. Or die . . . Sophie tried not to think about this too much as she climbed higher and higher. One foot , one hand, one foot, one hand. Sophie chanted the mantra over and over, hoping to avoid an injury.
Finally, Sophie heaved herself up and over. She landed on the roof, and collapsed in a relieved heap. I'm alive!!! She mentally screamed, resisting the uge to kiss the ground. The view was breathtaking. The forest area rolled out in one section, and in another, she could see hills of grass dotted with beautiful wildflowers. A charming gazebo was nestled in some trees, and a playful brook wound through the woods. Right. Sophie told herself. Look for Yogi the Yogur- You know what, we better just stick with Yogi. Sophie chuckled to herself, as she scanned the forest(the boundry for the flag, was the perimeter of the smaller woods.)
Suddenly, Sophie noticed something. She had been looking out over the property, but when she looked down, she saw a tall oak tree in front of the mansion. Fitz was at the base of the tree, several stories below, and Sophie knew what that meant. Yogi was somewhere in the tree.
Sophie craned her neck, but she couldn't get a clear enough view. She tried to take a step closer to the ledge, but she stumbled and fell. Right off the roof.
It felt like she was falling in slowmotion, as Fitz gawked up at her. She was airborne, sailing straight for the tree. She wished she could say that she looked graceful, like she did on purpose. Nope. She looked like a dying chicken, as she flailed her arms, and kept on falling. Sophie crashed landed into the tree, and tried to grab a branch, but her fingers slipped, and the branch just scratched her.
Sophie started tumbling down the the tree, recieving cuts and scrapes from all of the tree's limbs. Sophie flailed her arms to try to grab at a branch, but it was just her luck, that she grabbed at Yogi instead. She clung to the terrifying garden gnome as she crashed down. Sophie let out a hiss, as a large branch cut a gash in her leg. Sophie braced herself as the ground got closer, worried she was about to break every bone in her body.
Sophie clenched her eyes shut, and was preparing to come crashing to the ground, when she landed in someone's arms. Sophie looked up to see Fitz's handsome face. She instantly turned bright red. Fitz gaped at her, laughing in disbelief.
"What the-Sophie!" he laughed, shocked. "You, you jumped of the roof?!"
Sophie grinned, embaressed. "I tripped, and fell off of the roof."
Fitz laughed, but Sophie could tell he was laughing with her, not at her. Suddenly his face turned worried, as he saw her leg. "Sophie, you're bleeding."
