"I didn't take you to be the booty call type of girl." Hunter smirked at me the next morning as I'd entered the kitchen ready for a new day.
I rolled my eyes at his statement as I put the kettle on. After Tom had finally left last night I was tossing and turning the whole night. The idiot had caused me to be exhausted before work which I hated as my boss was keen to point out when someone wasn't on the ball.
I didn't even like hot drinks all that much but I was making a coffee in attempt to wake me up for work."There's a lot of things you don't know about me." I offered.
"You seem like a good girl, daddy's little princess if you like. Just didn't expect you to be messing around with someone in that way." He shrugged.
"It's not really any of your business what I get up to and no, I'm not a daddy's princess - far from it actually"
"Prove it" Hunter smirked.
I scoffed, "You wish. I've already let Tom down, I don't want to be letting you down next."
"Ah, classy! Screw them then screw them over harder. Maybe you're just a bitch then." Hunter said with a smirk.
"And you're just a self-centred, egotistical little prick." I snapped before leaving the apartment without as much as saying goodbye.
Once I got to work I was regretting not drinking my coffee or eating any breakfast. Hunter had pissed me off so much that I didn't want to be in his presence longer than necessary. Three hours into work and I was regretting it. My eyes were falling closed every few minutes and my stomach was rumbling loudly enough to make people in the office turn to look at me.
I loved being in this job. I was only an intern at Ink Publications but I loved it because I had got it on my own accord. The one thing my father wasn't involved in me getting so I was beyond proud of myself for not needing his help in that aspect of my career. In my second year of uni I carried out a placement module at the company and was apparently liked enough to be considered for an internship. Two weeks after the placement had ended, the boss Alice Carter called me and asked did I want to carry out a paid internship. She had promised me after this year she would consider me for a full time role.
Alice had snapped me out of my day dream when she cleared her throat above my desk. "Miss Stewart, what's the matter with you today? You're slacking!" Alice accused with her hands on her hips. Quickly, I opened my eyes wide and looked down at the manuscript in front of me. It was clear that I hadn't fully read it yet and I was half way through my shift.
"Sorry, Alice. I didn't sleep well last night." I admitted honestly. She sat down in the seat next to me and offered me a sympathetic smile. Although she was strict I loved her as a boss because she believed in me and treated me as my own person not my fathers daughter.
"Listen, Harper, you're evaluation for this month is due in soon. I don't want to have to write you're falling asleep at your desk because I know you're better than that. I don't want to see this happening again. Now get on with your work. I'm going to sit next to you and get on with my work to ensure you don't fall asleep again." Alice said dramatically to which I silently nodded.
After what felt like an hour, I lifted my head from the manuscript I had finished editing and looked around to see if Alice was still there. She was. I smiled at her and enthusiastically handed her the now edited and proofread manuscript. "I'm so sorry about earlier, it won't happen again. This was a good manuscript but needed a lot of revisions I don't know how the writer will feel about that."
"We'll deal with them later, for now let me see what you've done." She said checking over my work. "Ah, great, knew I could count on you Harper." She said with a soft smile. Alice was in her early thirties. She was small but always wore high heels and had short fiery red hair to match her personality. Not everyone in work liked her but I loved how she treated us all the same.
