"Hello?" I whispered answering the phone.
It didn't feel real that Hunter had finally decided to call me back. I expected him to ignore me after he walked away from me but now that I knew why, I was glad that he had called me back."Harper?" He questioned ecstatically clearly in a state of disbelief I called.
"It's me" I whispered confirming to him that it was really me.
Savannagh mouthed to me that she was going to give us some privacy as she headed to the door and waved me goodbye. I blew her a kiss as a gesture of thanks for her being such a good friend as she exited my apartment. As soon as she left, I quickly headed to my bedroom so my mum wouldn't be listening in to the details of our conversation. It wasn't that I didn't want her to hear what we said, it was just that I missed Hunter already and did not want to share this moment with him with anyone else.
"I can't believe you actually called!" He exclaimed.
"Yeah" I replied weakly.
"How are you?" He asked. I could almost sense him wincing from over the phone.
"I read your letter" I replied ignoring his question.
"You did?"
"Yep."
"Please understand that everything I have done is because I love you" he assured.
"I understand that now but I really need you to come back, Hunter" I demanded.
"Harper, you know I can't. I'm so, so sorry for leaving without giving you a proper explanation but if I come back then I am putting you and your mum in so much danger. I could not live with myself knowing that I was the reason that you or your mum got hurt. It pains me being away from you but knowing that it protects you is entirely worth it."
"I'm not going to get hurt, Hunter. Not if you tell the police" I suggested.
"I can't! You have read the letter, they will find ways if you or I go to the police about this" he said worriedly.
"Whether you go to the police or don't, I am going to take your letter to the police" I pushed.
"You cannot do that" he uttered frustratedly.
"I can and I will. I am fed up of my dad intimidating the people I love and care about. He was pushed you out of the country and somehow you believe that just because you are gone, he will no longer torment me. Hunter, the man has been tormenting me for years. What makes you think he's going to stop now? But my point is, now the police now, I constantly have them to go to any time he ever tries something. Every little thing will be reported - he can try everything he wants but this time he cannot get away with anything" I reassured Hunter.
"How can you be sure? We both know how useless the police can be at times. They had you inside for two days for fucks sake!" He seethed.
"I know, I know. But please, Hunter I need you here with me, supporting me" I pathetically pleaded.
"I wish I could be there for you, Harper, but I don't think it's safe for you" he admitted.
"Hunter! I'm not messing around, I really need you back here supporting me. Savannagh said they'll use you and your dad moving to America against me in the trial" I panicked.
"So you just want me back to help your trial?" He muttered.
"What? No! I didn't mean it like that."
"Then what did you mean, Harper?" He snapped.
"Of course I want you here to help my trial but not only do I want everyone around here to support my trial, I just want you here. I miss you so much, Hunter" I admitted.
