han jihyun was perfectly normal. at least that's what she thought. everyone else, on the other hand, seemed to disagree with her. that's why she was there, alone, in...

as the girl opened her eyes, she felt a wave of deja vu. but she in fact, had done this before. she had already woken up in what she thought to be a hospital bed and she had already scanned the room to be met with the warm brown eyes of a boy.
however, the warmness in these eyes she has seen before. jihyun sat up on her bed and looked at the boy in front of her only this time she knew those eyes. just like last time, he was smiling.
but instead this time the smile was filled with sorrow. it was a sad sort of smile. one you would give to someone as you inform them of one of their loved ones passing on. it was pitiful. but she didn't want pity. especially not his. so instead, she spoke, "what happened to you?" "i- well, they forced me away from you." he reported, stoically. "they wanted to know what would happen if i stopped coming." so they do see me as an experiment. she scoffed before stating her thoughts out loud, "so they wanted to see what would happen to me if you stopped coming."
he looked down. that's exactly what they wanted the boy thought. but of course, he wasn't going to tell her that. "i'm allowed to see you now." he uttered. does she even want to see me now? "is that so?" he nodded. "ok." jihyun responded. as much as she wanted to spend every hour of the day with him, she couldn't. she felt as if he had betrayed her. and maybe he had.
the following day, nayeon knocked on the door as per usual and delivered her meal to the younger. jihyun sat upright on her plain white bed ready to ingest the flavourless recreation of mashed potatoes as usual. she would have done willingly however today the mush was gone.
in replacement, she had received scones. scones and strawberry jam to elaborate. smiling slightly, she picked up the note that came with her meal. it read,
dear jihyun, today i made you a meal again. i guess this is my way of apologising. i baked these myself so i really hope you enjoy them! i will be waiting for the time you are ready to meet me again. the following days i will leave a pencil with the meal so you can write on the note if you're ready! i wish to see you again! lots of love, your bestie hyunjin ❤︎
unconsciously, she smiled. after all, why wouldn't she? he was her happiness. though their friendship was short-lived, he meant a lot to her and she was willing to get it back.
