after that day, many more like it came. each passing day, nayeon would inform jihyun of hyunjin's absence and every time the young girl grew less and less surprised. but hyunjin would come every day. what made him stop? the girl wondered. was it her? did she scare him? was he not having as good of a time as he let on? these were the types of thoughts she had as she laid on her back on the plain white bed at the back of her plain white room and looked at the plain white ceiling.

her morning meal had already passed, so the female was now waiting for her evening meal. after the first day that hyunjin stopped coming, his meals stopped coming as well. as a result of this she had to go back to the lumps of mush they labelled as food that she was forced to consume. these were the little details she thought about every day. to be fair, what else could she think about. before, her day only consisted of sitting on her plain white bed and consuming the daily mush. such routines, when broken, get hard to revert back to. especially when something else valuable takes their place.

meeting up with hyunjin brought the girl joy. she anticipated it and over time it became the highlight of her day. he was the sun in her everlasting storm and though they had only been meeting for two weeks, her friend. his absence was starting to take a toll on her and she was the only one not to notice. when people such as the nurses or even nayeon tried to make any sort of communication with her, she would not answer. if they touched her, she would push them away and say nothing.

today, jihyun had decided to ask nayeon about her friend. now, all she had to do was wait. and of course, she could tell when her caretaker would come, as her senses grew sharper during her containment. "hello!" nayeon breathed out, seemingly happy as always. "here is your afternoon meal!" jihyun nodded, took the tray from the older lady, sighed and asked in a small voice, "why isn't hyunjin coming anymore?" with that, nayeon froze. "well dear, he just," she began, "he's busy." and she finally lost it. "stop lying!" the younger shouted. "stop telling me all these lies! i'm not insane and i am perfectly fine! if you're going to keep me here, at least give me some sort of hapiness!" the girl was rabid. her head was a storm, and her heart was at a playground. it knew what it wanted. but her head disagreed. so, of course, the only rational thing to do is to shout about it. right?

then it started. her first attack in precisely 15 days. you're not good enough, he just wants to avoid you, he hates you, they only want you to be unhappy. the voices came at her like a nest of vipers, each one with a different side effect to their venom, spitting at her head and clouding her vision. filled with a mix of pure rage and agony, she fell to the floor until she found heard a voice. a specific voice. the one she wanted to hear. the one she was yearning for.

hwang hyunjin.
