Sophie hurried  over to Inflicting, where her substitute teacher, Ms. Hornette, was waiting for her, because Bronte was at an important Elvin Council meeting.

"Hello, Sophie." Ms. Hornette said in a high, cold voice. "Bronte told me that today I will be teaching you how to inflict certain people in a room without wiping out everyone in the area."

Sophie was eager to learn this, for she had wanted to know how to do this for a long time.

"First of all, you need to focus your mind on the certain person you want to hit. I brought in some students who were originally going to be in detention, but I needed them here for you practice on.

Ms. Hornette opened the door up for some small, terrified first year students.

Sophie's eyes widened, and she said, "I can't hurt them! They did nothing wrong!"

"Actually, they did." replied Ms. Hornette. "I told you before, they were going to be in detention, but then I told Mrs. Golidam, who is going to managing detention today, that I needed them. Now, inflict!"

Sophie's eyes narrowed and she thought to herself, Fine, you want me to inflict? Then I'll inflict on you!

Sophie imagined a knot of negative emotions untying, releasing all of its pain on Ms. Hornette. She imagined a black light, shining upon the cruel teacher, and then she let all of it shine upon Ms. Hornette, and then Ms. Hornette crumpled to the ground, which attracted the cheering of all of the first years in the room.

Sophie looked at Ms. Hornette, and then thought, What have I done?

She used telekenisis to carry Ms. Hornette over to the Healing Center.

"Sophie! What happened?" asked Elwin, surprised to see the teacher passed out.

Sophie sighed, and replied, "She wanted me to inflict upon first years, so instead, I inflicted on her."

Elwin looked at her for a moment, and then said, "I see. I suppose that since she's not completely innocent, I won't tell anyone about this, but don't do it again, okay Sophie?"

"Okay," said Sophie, ashamed. She stayed in the Healing Center, watching Elwin heal Ms. Hornette, until it was time for her next class.

"Bye, Elwin." Sophie said, and then she left the Healing Center, and decided that she wouldn't tell anyone about what happened in Inflicting.
