Reader POV

Running.

You were running away from the hellhole you once called home.

"(y/n)!!!!" Your father roared, his dark magic spreading through the air in a mana zone.

You didn't look back as your black boots hit the ground as you ran through the night.

You didn't stop until you reached the Grand Magic Zone Boundary that separated the four kingdoms.

There was a little town with mages and other beings.

"Little girl, are you alright?" A man with stubble and a cigarette stared at you from above on his broomstick.

You said nothing but collapsed on the dirt.

Yami's POV

I stared at the fallen child. "Geez...the shit I get for trying to be somewhat curious."

I picked up the (h/c)-haired female and gasped. On her shoulder was a Spade mark. Saying nothing and fixing her tattered shirt, I brought her to a very trustworthy doctor.

"Will she be alright?" I asked.

He nodded. "She'll be fine. But Yami, I won't pry too much. This child has obviously been through some trauma. Where is she from?"

I kept quiet about finding her in the Grand Magic Zone. "A town out in the boonies,"

"Her parents-"

"I have no idea." I stood up and looked back at the sleeping (h/c)-haired girl. "I need to report this to Master Julius,"

"But of course,"

"What?" I roared.

The Wizard King shuddered. "Yami, I wouldn't ask this unless if I trusted you,"

"How can I raise a four-year-old??" I ran fingers through my hair.

William Vangeance beside me placed a hand on my shoulder. "If you wish, I can take care of her,"

"Absolutely not, mask weirdo!"

"Then it is settled," Julius said in a serious tone. "William, Yami, you must never speak of this child having the mark of the Spade Kingdom,"

"Yes, Sir," we both saluted.

"Yami will raise the child as his own. Until then..." he paused. "Wait. No, this child cannot have any flashbacks of where she came from."

"Do you know who she is?" I asked with curiosity. "When you first saw her, you had some sort of recognition thingy,"

Julius looked me dead in the eye. "All you need to know is that her mother is...sadly deceased. But she has living kin. Her father is...not someone I can speak of. Her family, however, is alive. Or at least, is still so."

William pieced what he said together. "Julius, is this child the kin of him?"

I sucked in a deep breath and looked through the window at the sleeping child. In a low voice, I said; "Is she the child of him and is her family possibly the rulers of the Spade Kingdom?"
