Reader POV (time skip)

Today was the day that I was going to receive my grimoire!

Dad had ordered me to dress in something nice.

"Hey, this is a historic day," He argued. "Even I'm wearing something nice. And that never happens."

I giggled. "A real lady-killer, Dad,"

He glared at me. "Shush."

We arrived at the tower as other people my age went into the place.

"I'm so proud of you," Dad gave me a sudden hug before we entered.

I hugged him tightly. "Thanks, Dad."

The dress I wore had exposed shoulders slightly. On my right shoulder, there was a Spade mark.

Dad told me it was something I was born with.

I never understood why, but just went along with it. After all, if I asked him about my mother or anything, he always changed the subject.

I imagined it was painful since Captain Vengeance had told me Dad loved my mother deeply.

The inside of the tower was dimly lit.

"Hey!" My friend River and her twin sister Winter waved to me.

I smiled at them. "Are you ready to get your grimoires?"

River gave me a wide smile. "Hells yeah!"

"Yay..." Winter shyly smiled at me.

One by one, we were called to the middle by the keeper of grimoires.

"River Ling!"

The ravanette stepped into the center and a grimoire with a three-leaf clover and a blue-and-white look floated in front of her.

"Water magic!" The keeper announced. Everyone clapped.

"Winter Ling!"

The albino nervously stepped into the center. A gust of cold air swept through the room as a grimoire with a three-leaf clover and white-and-silver markings floated in front of her.

"Winter Magic!"

I smiled at her.

"(y/n) Sukehiro!"

Dad cheered for me as my friends also cheered. From the corner of my eye, I saw Nozel and Leon looking at me with encouraging looks.

Though Nozel and I weren't always on best terms, that was changing now.

The lights flickered and all the candles went out with a snap, encasing everyone into darkness.

Suddenly, the candles were all lit. The flame was black with a blueish-purple glow.

A grimoire with a blueish-purple spade on black canvas floated in front of me.

"Dark Magic!"

"I knew it!" Leon, Nozel, Yami, River, and Winter clapped.

The lights went back on as I stepped away from the center.

...

"I'm so happy you officially have a grimoire like mine except with a spade," Dad ruffled my hair.

"Yes..." Captain Vangeance regarded it with a weird look. "Maybe it has something to do with your birthmark?"

Nozel shrugged. "Who knows, who cares."

"Your magic is so cool," Leon stared in awe.

I opened my grimoire, eager to see the spells inside.
