Wolf speak

Winter shyly smiled at her father as he carried a small cake out from the kitchen, with two candles that made the number 16. "Happy Birthday Winter!" Aleo barked from under the table. The girl replied with a small 'thank you' and pat Aleos head.

"Well I didnt burn it!" Ray laughed, setting the cake down. Winter laughed, and stood to hug her father. "I bet it taste great dad." She smiled and pulled Ray down into a seat next to her.

To make a long story short, most of the cake ended up on their clothes than in their stomachs.

After cleaning up a bit and changing clothes, the 3 sat on the couch to give the girl gifts. Aleo walked forward with a small wrapped box, the ribbon lose enough so Aleo could carry it without ripping it. "Thank you Aleo this is beautiful!" Winter smiled as she held up a picture of them both in wolf form,  a paw print in the corner.

Aleo smiled and layed on the couch, his head on Winters lap as Ray handed her his gift. A gasp came from the girl, holding up a pink camo switch blade, with "daddys little girl" engraved into the handle. "I made it myself." Ray shyly smile, starting to get worried she didnt like it. Winters face was unreadable as she examined the blade.

Ray jumped, startled, as Winter suddenly hugged him tightly. "I love it dad! Thank you!" Winter hugged her father tighter, she always said she wanted a switch blade for her 16th birthday, and she got it, but Ray had made it more special by hand making it and going as far as engraving it for her.

All 3 wolves jumped at a 4th voice. "My daughters 16th birthday already? Shame. I would have gotten you something dear." Quinn stood in the doorway of the living room, picking her nails. Winter froze and Aleo instantly jumped up, ready to protect the girl behind him.

Ray was standing quicker than sonic could run. "What are you doing here Quinn?" Ray growled. Quinn looked up from her nails, taking a few small steps forward, her black heels clicking against the wood floor. "Its simple really. My old clan, they offered me back in, but theres a catch." The vampire paused, the glint of Winters new knife catching her eye. "In order for me to be accepted again, I must prove that I no longer love you or Winter" Quinn was as Winters side, switch blade in hand quicker than any of then could react.

"By bringing them your heads." Quinn stated calmly, looking down at Winter, who had quickly crawled away to the other side of the couch, allowing Aleo to jump up and stand in front of her.

"Dont you DARE touch them!" Ray growled. Quinn only smirked and turned to the male. "Fine. I guess I'll start with you then." Quinn lunged foward, switch blade aimed at his chest. Ray was quick to dodge and grab the vampires wrist, pushing her into the wall. "Aleo! Get Winter out of here now!" Ray growled, starting to turn to his 3rd form.

Aleo didnt even nod as he forced Winter into her wolf form and dragged her out the house and through the forest. "Aleo! Wait! We have to help him!" Winter cried, stopping to a halt. "Winter I want to help Ray too but Quinn is dangerous! She could easily turn and grab you and use you to get Ray to surrender, killing him then you!" Aleos voice got more strained the more he talked. Winter lowered her head, her body starting to shake as she cried.

Aleo nudged her gently. "Turn to your human form and you can ride on my back, your in no condition to be running and we cant afford to stop. Quinn is fast." Aleo spoke again, his voice staying low and soft. Winter nodded and did as Aleo said, she clung to his fur, crying as they got further and further away.

They couldnt go to the pack, if Aleo was correct, then Quinn knows about them and would look there first, so he ran past there, to his own secret den that he lived in before he found Winter.

"W-where are we?" Winter asked, her voice cracking from crying. "My old secret den. I used to live here before j found you. Ray knows about this place. We will wait here for 3 days, if he doesnt come then we can go check the house." Aleo replied, laying down near the entrance. Winter sighed and moved over to Aleo, resting her head on his back, deciding it would be best to just get some sleep.

Winter and Aleo stayed in the cave for 3 days like planned. Winter had calmed herself and wasnt to worried about her father. If something was wrong he would have tried to tell them by now. "Take a quick nap Winter. You should be fully energized when we get there." Aleo said from behind.

He was tired, he barely slept at all for the past few days, pulling all nighters to watch the entrance. "Only if you nap with me! You need sleep too Aleo." Winter crossed her arms. Aleo only nodded and layed down, allowing Winter to lay most of her upper body on his back. They both surprisingly had a good few hours of peaceful sleep.

But little did they know that, that nap would probably be the last time they slept peacefully for a long time.
