Avery's POV

We took a place at the table for dinner after the long talk in my office, we are not speaking like we normally did but at least we are speaking.

I noticed Marcus has not arrived yet and is weird because even when have been days where doesn't show the whole day, he is hereby dinner, is taking 'the stay away' a bit too far.

I sensed him get in the palace and I'm not sure how is that possible, "Mercedes, is the king already at the palace?", I asked her and she nodded.

"Are you not going to have dinner?", I link him

"I'm going to have dinner in my office", he told me.

"Nonsenses!, Come here, you're not eating alone", I scolded him and I heard him laugh

"I don't want to bother your family", he replied

"you are not going to bother anyone, besides this is your home and you're my father", I replied him before even thinking it

"What did you just say?!", He asked me to repeat sounding way too excited

"Please don't make it weird! Come eat now, I'm waiting for you", I requested him

Just a minute later, he was entering the room and I can feel the atmosphere change, Rafael seems more stressed and mom has red cheeks, 'problems' I thought

"Good evening", Marcus salute and took his place not without kissing the top of my head first.

"Your Majesty, Good evening", they all answered bowing their head to him, I imagine must be hard for Rafael to have to bow his head to his mate's ex but...

"Hi Dana, is nice to see you safe and sound, and apparently fully recovered", Marcus starts to speak to his niece.

"Thanks to Avery, I didn't have a hard recovery because she kept me safe all the time", she responded him smiling at me and Marcus smiled proudly.

"Of course she kept you safe, she's the best fighter I know", Shawn joined the conversation with a pause, "Dad taught you very well", he finished.

'low blow to Marcus'

Marcus's smile momentarily dropped, but he masked it immediately.

"I imagine the training that Alfa Valens gave you must have been excellent for you to be the best fighter, congratulations and thank you Rafael" Marcus nodded at Rafael.

"Thank you, your majesty... But you have nothing to thank me for, was not a problem at all, she received the same training and treatment as my son, is my daughter after all", Rafael praise with an innocent smile playing on his lips.

I sense the rage of Marcus's rise but he didn't say a word.

My mom looks nervous and Dana as well for the exchange of statement they are witnessing, Shawn is with Rafael on this one.

"This is stupid", I mentally grumbled

"This is fun", Maya replied, "I wish we have popcorns". I rolled my eyes internally at her.

"Yes, it is true", I decided to interrupt, "I am very blessed, I have an incredible mother and two incredible fathers too. From one I learned to protect myself and be strong and not just physically, thanks for that Rafael", I bowed smiling to him, "and from the other, I learned that it is good to be protected and it is good to be vulnerable even when I am not a pup anymore, To forgive and to trust again, thanks you Marcus", I bowed smiling at him also, "you are both my father and one cannot replace the other, so can we eat without playing 'I'm the best dad' game you're playing", I snapped, Shawn and Rafael seem embarrassed for having started these nonsenses, Marcus and Mom look at me with pride, Dana and Justin are giggling.
