«Mister Malfoy, Mister Potter, stop talking!»
Minerva McGonagall was on the edge of desperation while some students burst into a laugh, others sneered or just smirked at the two boys sat at the end of the classroom.
«Sorry, professor. It won't happen again» Scorpius mumbled, lowering his head to stare at the desk in front of him, suddenly more interesting than the old woman, standing next to them with a disapproving look on her face.
«It would be better for both of you. Or I'll be forced to take points off your house» all the sixth year Slytherins in the Transfiguration room snorted. As always, it was their fault if the house wasn't going to win the cup. They were the problem. They always were. «So what were we talking about?»
On the other hand, Albus didn't apologise or say anything. For how stubborn he was, the white-haired boy knew perfectly it was very rare for him to do so.
«Professor McGonagall, may I ask you a question?»
The old lady nodded while walking through the students slowly, studying and reading them as if they were books. It was one of her characteristics, one of her talents, «Of course, Misses Brings»
«Yesterday we talked about the mystery of soulmates during History of Magic,» the Hufflepuff sighed «I was curious if she could tell us a little more. For example about the curse»
All the students in the class gasped, included Scorpius, their eyes switching between the blonde girl and the elder woman. Apart from Albus. As always, he hadn't listened to the lesson, so he had absolutely no clue what they were talking about.
«I think yes, I can» the professor spoke, her voice soothing, calm like the sea before the storm «As many of you could have understood, in the Wizard World, there's this legend, this mystery, this myth about soulmates. We get one assigned since the begging of our lives and it could be either a woman or a man. It doesn't matter,»
Some in the class giggled, others looked at their friends in disbelief. McGonagall went on, «Our soulmate could be anyone. A muggle or a pureblood, a person older or younger than us, someone who we meet just before, at or after school. It could be our best friend or our worst enemy. As I mentioned before, it doesn't matter. Not for destiny, not for fate»
The girls sat in front of them sighed, probably thinking about how they could have already found the love of their lives.
Behind them, Scorpius didn't make the littlest eye-contact with Albus.
"I fell for someone I knew I couldn't have. For a long time, I never thought I would meet someone that would catch my attention. Someone that would get me to open up and make me want to get to know every aspect of them„
The professor continued, «What matters is that at the end of their lives, the soulmates have found each other, spend the time they still have together happily. The myth even says that the children had by soulmates are more powerful Wizards than the one had by non-soulmates ones, who are generally muggles».
"I feared love so plain that being with them forever scarred me. I feared a love so normal that it would bore me and tell myself "is that it?". Terrified that I would have to settle for someone that would try to light a spark in me but never succeeded. But then you came along Whenever you tell me something new about yourself, I get excited. You make me dream about the future with you. The thought of living a boring life with you didn't scare me, because every moment spends with you is worth flying across the world for„
«What if two soulmates don't get together?» it was Scorpius who had spoken, his voice trembling and sounding more like a whisper than anything else «What if they have children with other people?»
«It's very rare, Mister Malfoy,» she turned his head to him «It depends if they had found their soulmates before marrying another person. Because once you fall in love with your soulmate and then leave him or her, the consequences might be dangerous».
The white-haired boy felt his chest becoming heaving «For example?» a Slytherin asked.
«Well, if two wizards had this strong connection and interrupted it, to then marry and have babies with another person, their children are automatically attracted to each other and, obviously, are soulmates».
A Ravenclaw raised his hand «But where's the danger, Professor McGonagall?»
The above-mentioned let out a heavy breath, «There's this thing, Misses Spring: the bound between two soulmates is already very powerful, but imagine how strong it would be between two people whose parents had it but decided to ignore and forget about it»
"I'm not the religious type, but I am guilty of praying to God more times than I can remember. I beg Him to bring you back to me. I beg Him to make you love me. But then I remember, not even God can force anyone to do anything. He can't bring you back to me„
«It is like, hereditary?»
The old lady spoke only after maybe one whole minute of pure silence, «There was a Dark Wizard -no, not Voldemort- who considered the tie between those whose parents married other people although they had found their soulmate dangerous, because of how powerful and strong it is,» then she muttered «So he cursed them»
The whole class fell silent, each student curious yet without words: who was this dark wizard? How powerful really were these kind of children?
«However, fortunately, no wizard or witch in England knows about what this curse causes, since there haven't been cases about those type of children in our country: as many of you have understood, it's very difficult for non-soulmates not to have muggle babies, so their bond isn't powerful as if they were Wizards».
Scorpius felt like if he couldn't breathe properly anymore. It urged him to get as soon as possible to the bathroom.
He needed to puke.
