Scorpius had noticed that there was something going on with Albus and yes, he had tried to talk to him, to ask what was bothering him, but the brunet had always found a way either to distract him or to soothe him, so the blond concluded that it was not a big deal.
And he couldn't be more wrong.
It was the second of May, the anniversary of the battle of Hogwarts and they were having dinner in the Great Hall like every other evening. No Balls or feasts had been organised for the ceremony like in the previous years. Everything seemed to normal as if no one had prepared something to remember that night.
Wrong again.
Suddenly McGonagall stood up from her seat and took out her wand, casting a spell to raise her voice.
«Good evening students, I'm so sorry to interrupt your meal, but I have an important announcement to do»
Some murmured in surprise, others in annoyance, everyone turning their heads to the headmistress.
«You probably think that we haven't prepared anything to remember the many deaths and celebrate the fall of... Lord Voldemort» some students gasped but the old-lady ignored them «Nevertheless, it's not the truth. We have thought, the teacher-staff and I, of something better than a ball. Something more meaningful».
Scorpius' gaze fell on Albus, sat next to him, feeling confused, but he seemed lost as well.
«This night, in the castle, magic won't work. It won't be possible for you to cast either complex spells or easy ones to light up your bedroom with a Lumos.»
A Hufflepuff of their year, Beatrice Link, was the only one who spoke calmly among the confusing comments that had risen in the Great Hall, «So we will be like muggles?»
«Yes, Misses Link. Just for this night. To remember the terrible night of many years ago» although rumours and shouts continued, McGonagall decided to ignore them once more «Now you can return to your dinner».
But Scorpius instantly turned his head to Albus and found him staring at him as well.
The eyes met and immediately locked. It was as if the moment had frozen. They were the only ones in the huge hall. No one else existed, apart from the other.
"We were the perfect match, maybe that's why we burned out".
«Do you think...?» the taller murmured, getting closer to him. «Do you think that the curse» he paused «the wounds...» but he just couldn't finish the phrase, too lost in those green eyes. Then his gaze suddenly fell on Albus' pink lips.
«Don't follow me. Wait a minute» the aforementioned unexpectedly stood up from his seat «Meet me in our dormitory» and then started walking faster and faster towards the main door.
The taller followed the instructions, and after exactly sixty seconds, literally sprinted to the Slytherin common room, not caring about other people's eyes fixed on him.
He just wanted to be with Albus. His Albus.
Little did he know it wasn't possible.
When he reached their bedroom, he was of course already there and as soon as he had closed the door behind his back, the blond suddenly halted and started walking slowly towards him, standing up next to his bed.
«How can we know if the curse still works or not?» he asked, getting closer and closer to him, «It could be dangerous».
