~ Gabriella's POV ~
The sudden sound of the front door bell ringing caused me to jump as it brought me out of my daydream, causing me to drop the plate I was washing in the sink.
All day I've been a jumpy mess.
Last night after I forced myself to get through dinner, the second I got upstairs my food just came straight back up. I've hardly been able to eat anything since I've been so nervous.
Whenever someone came in or out the house and I could hear the front door I would be on edge expecting someone to come and tell me that Dean was at the door for me. I don't know why considering he messaged me that he would be here at 7pm but I was just scared.
I'd had my phone turned off ever since that message came so I had no clue if he'd sent anymore.
Almost everyone in the house had noticed by now that I was on edge and that something was bothering me. My sister tried to get some answers from me but I just shut her down every time and I did the same with my brother. Even my father asked me 'what my problem was' when I shakily handed him a mug of coffee as he was working from home today.
By the time it was 6:30pm I had no idea what I was going to do, so the only thing I could think of was to get ready. Don't ask me why, because I don't know. I didn't intend on listening to a word he said, I wasn't going to tell Matteo a word of what he told me to say and I wasn't planning on going anywhere with him today.
But the thought of him hurting me again was enough to make me get ready without even thinking about it. I couldn't describe the fear I had of him all of a sudden. Over time I could start seeing a change in him, he was no longer happy and charming like he was the day we met.
He started showing his short temper very quickly and his possessiveness also. I just didn't think he would be violent. I always knew men like that existed (and women) but I never thought I would meet one.
Suddenly I've started second guessing everyone.
Especially Matteo.
He was in the mafia for God's sake, his everyday life was full of violence and anger. Nothing would be stopping him from doing the same thing to me, would it?
I was busy upstairs adding the last touches to my hair when I heard the doorbell ring, and I instantly checked the time on the clock across my room.
6:57pm.
I suddenly started feeling sick as I put down my comb and made my way out of my room and downstairs. As I came downstairs my eyes were focused on the door which was the only thing blocking my view of Dean who was on the otherside.
It was the only thing protecting me from him.
When he started banging on the door, I jumped at the sudden noise before I hastily went towards the door. My hands shakily lifted as I unlocked the door and opened it.
My eyes met his furious ones as I took a step back, tightly holding onto the door which was just over half way open.
"Gabriella."
"Dean...I'm sorry, I just-"
"I told you to be ready. Why weren't you opening the door?"
"I-I'm sorry, I was upstairs. Please just give me one minute, I just need to get my things." He stared at me for a moment before he nodded, a small sadistic smirk tugging on his lips. "Don't forget your phone."
I had to force myself to nod as I closed the door when he made no move to go back to his car, instead choosing to wait right outside my front door. He probably wanted me to invite him in but there was no way I was doing that.
