~ Matteo's POV ~
Maybe I shouldn't have called her a bitch...twice, but the first time the words kind of flew out before I could stop them. Then she had the nerve to slap me.
One thing I absolutely hated was people putting their hands on me. Whenever someone hit me, I would almost always retaliate. Obviously I wasn't going to do that with Gabby which just made me even more angry.
Some how and I have no freaking clue how, I managed to stop myself from saying a load of things I knew that I would regret after she slapped me. Deep down I wanted to threaten her and swear at her to release all the anger inside me, but I knew I couldn't do that.
Firstly because she was the mother of my unborn child and she deserved endless respect from me just for that but also because I loved her (obviously). Sometimes it's easy to say things in the moment and hurt the other person just as much as you're hurting, but that will always come back to bite you in the ass whenever you come to make up.
I knew I'd already screwed up by ending our trip early and then I called her a bitch. She was definitely in the wrong for hitting me but that didn't mean I wasn't at fault. I said things I definitely shouldn't have.
Of course, all this wisdom only came to me a while later because for the foreseeable future after she slapped me I was still so damn furious.
We didn't speak, I couldn't bring myself to speak to her because the anger was still too raw. If I did and she said anything to irritate me I would have lost all the patience and composure I had.
But when I saw her in the bathroom on the plane my heart broke for her. I knew she hated flying. Maybe it was my pride that stopped me from going to check on her, I don't know. All I know is that for the whole eight hour flight I felt like absolute crap knowing I wasn't sitting with her.
"Sir, we'll be landing soon." My pilot came out of the cockpit, glancing at the laptop and phone I had on the table in front of me causing me to roll my eyes.
"I'll turn it off, don't worry. You sound like my freaking girlfriend." When I said this I swear I saw his mouth twitch up into a smile but he just nodded before he went to ask the same from Gabby. If he hadn't been a lot older than me and my pilot for as long as I could remember, I probably would have fired him for the smile.
But I knew he needed this job. I once managed to get him to sit for two minutes and have a conversation with me, although he was a nervous wreck the whole time. During that conversation he told me that he and his wife had three children who had all grown up and left them, but his wife wasn't fit to work so he was the only one of them earning to keep themselves afloat.
I know Gabby told me to be nicer to him on the first flight out, and she also accused me of being cheap when I didn't want to pay him extra for waiting for us. But what she didn't know was that I'd already been tacking a bonus onto every pay check he's had from me ever since we had that conversation.
Maybe that's the only reason he's ever stuck around and dealt with my moody behaviour.
When the plane finally landed, Gabby was the first one to get up and make her way to the door, sending a smile to the pilot when he opened the exit door for her.
I, on the other hand, just sat there watching her as she turned back around to look at me with a furious glare on her face, as I'd expected.
"You...I can't believe you..." I rolled my eyes at her as she struggled to form her sentence and I stood up, picking up my things. I walked past Gabby as she stood there staring at me in shock while my pilot just stood there watching us in confusion.
