~ Gabriella's POV ~

In that moment it felt like time stood still as everyone processed what Matteo had just said. When he realised what he'd just done he turned to look at me with wide eyes, while my own filled with tears, especially when I saw the horror on his mother's face.

How could one woman become so heartless? I could swear she liked me at the beginning when we first met but for some reason, now she can't stand me.

"Matteo..." When he heard my voice, he came towards me, taking my hand in his as the rest of his family stood up, clearly in shock from the news Matteo accidentally let out. Matteo's mother looked horrified at the idea of me giving her a grandchild while his father just seemed shocked.

On the other side of the table Adrian was just watching with wide eyes and Jordan had tears in her eyes.

"You're pregnant Gabriella?" She slowly stepped away from her chair and came towards me as a small smile tugged at my lips when I saw the happiness that sparkled in her eyes.

I nodded my head, unable to ignore the small pit of happiness and pride bubbling inside me from telling someone about our baby.

"Oh, Congratulations!" Jordan quickly made her way towards me and my hand slipped from Matteo's just as she pulled me into a hug as she laughed. "I can't wait to see a little Matteo or Gabby running around. You're going to make amazing parents, both of you."

As she said this she pulled away from me and smiled at Matteo before giving him a hug too. It was so clear to see the love they had for each other when the tears fell from Jordan's eyes and Matteo squeezed her tight, a soft smile tugging at his lips.

I hadn't seen him smile genuinely like that for days.

Their hug was cut short when Matteo's mother made her way over to us in the huge dining room, causing Jordan to pull away from Matteo.

"Oh, Matteo what have you done?"

The glare soon replaced the smile on Matteo's face as he turned to look at his mother again, almost like he was ready for round two. Before Matteo could respond to her, no doubt making this whole situation even worse, I took his hand in mine, tugging him towards the door. "Leave it for today, that's enough. Let's just go."

He looked between his mother and I as if he was having an internal battle with himself. My boyfriend was definitely an argumentative person when someone pushed the right buttons so it would often take a lot for him to just walk away, especially from something like this. Thankfully though, he followed me out of the dining room and into the hallway.

"Did you leave anything in the bedroom upstairs?" Matteo mumbled his words in his usual deep husky voice as he led me back to the front door, keeping my hand tightly gripped in his.

"No everything is still here." I gestured to our bags which were still at the bottom of the stairs in the hallway from when we first came inside. Matteo nodded his head before he turned around to face Adrian and Jordan who had followed behind us. Before either of them could say anything he informed them that we would see them at the 'stupid' gala tomorrow - something which he definitely didn't sound happy about.

Once I'd grabbed my purse, I ended up walking out to Matteo's Bentley with Jordan while Adrian and Matteo brought the bags to the car together, continuing the conversation between themselves.
