Three Weeks Later
~ Jordan's POV ~
(Surprise!)Letting out a sigh I picked Caterina up off Adrian's desk, holding her in my arms while Adrian continued to stare at the papers in front of him.
"You're not even going to acknowledge your daughter?"
"I did." I rolled my eyes at his response, turning my attention to Caterina who was frowning at her father. All day she'd been asking for him so finally after hours of telling her that he'll be here later I eventually decided to take her to his office. But as I expected, he was too busy with his work to spend any time with her.
"It's been three weeks Adrian. I know this is important but you have other responsibilities too. You can't just forget that."
Finally he let out a sigh and turned his attention to me, leaning back in his chair.
"I've been putting them to bed every night. When the boys come in here I talk to them whenever they want or I let them sit here and do their own thing. I just don't have time right now to converse with a two year old who has no clue what I'm saying."
I let out a scoff at his words shaking my head at his attitude.
"Well done, you're being a father, congratulations. She's your daughter. Whether she's two or five like Mario or seven like Leo, you should still spend time with her. She deserves your attention just as much as they do."
With that I went around his desk and put Caterina on his lap causing him to frown at me while she just smiled in delight and put her head on his chest.
"I never thought I would see the day you didn't have time for her."
I could tell what I said affected him but honestly I didn't care. The way my children felt was more important at that moment.
Sending one more glare in his direction I leaned down and kissed my daughter's cheek before I walked out of his office.
Now that I didn't have my clingy little princess following me around all the time I managed to get on with some of the house worked I needed to do. It was a lot easier for Leo and Mario to keep themselves busy during the day since they had each other for company and a huge playroom all to themselves. All I had to do was check in on them regularly or keep an eye on the cameras we had in all of their rooms and the play room.
That was one thing Adrian and I both agreed on as the children got older. After everything we'd been through, I knew the mafia was no joke and that Adrian had many, many enemies. We made sure this whole house was protected for them. At least in the house we could then give them the freedom other children had, whereas outside we were always followed by security and we taught them never to talk to anyone except us.
I knew bringing children up in this life would be hard and as much as I wish the mafia would take a backseat in our lives (or disappear completely), I would never ever wish that any of my children weren't born.
They made everything worth it.
Half an hour later I'd managed to get a fresh load of laundry folded and put away, another load in the washing machine and I cleaned the living room before I started making dinner.
It was only then that Adrian finally emerged from his office, bringing Caterina with him in his arms as he walked into the kitchen. I heard him close the kitchen door before putting Caterina on the floor so that she could walk around. It fell silent for a while before Adrian finally spoke.
"Would you ever consider trying for another baby?" Adrian's sudden question caught me off guard as I turned my head away from the food to look at him as he leaned against the counter watching me.
