Kaia POV
The day of Azai's departure has come.
I will be taking him to the duke's house myself. I told others that they are forbidden to follow me.
Duke had arranged a carriage and made sure it couldn't be tracked as there was no symbol on it to represent any nobility. When we reached the duke's place. The duke was waiting for us in the same receiving room.
This is the first time I had the chance to actually look at the room. While I sat here till sundown last time, I was busy figuring out what the man in front of me wanted by asking me to just sit there.
While looking at the intricate design I found out how it did not suit the man in the rumours, who is known to be a bloodthirsty man. Because the man who doesn't know anything except war. Which I would personally disagree with as I know that he is quite a good Duke. I mean does he kill people under him who go against his ideals? Yes.
I remember the book said it was because what the people under him were doing was embezzlement and because of this the duke killed them and their family. I have killed the worst and better people that them in my previous life, so I really am the wrong person to judge. I have no remorse for the people I had killed.
Though the current room was far from what I had thought it was. I felt a sense of laughter coming from me. which is rare might I say.
"Pfft," I tried to hold in the laughter. "Sorry, I just noticed the room properly for the first time, and it doesn't suit the Black Dragon Ducal house. No offence, but it's totally different from how people see you."
After the last time, I really don't care about his anger—this bloody handsome asshole.
Azai is staring at me in confusion, and even the duke is. Neither of them gets what's happening.
"Well, neither of you were going to talk. We've been sitting here for 20 minutes now. If neither of you is willing to talk, I'm not needed, so I'm leaving."
"No," both said in unison.
"Well then talk," I said thinking 'they really are father and son.'
"What do you want from me," Azai asked the duke.
"Nothing yet, but if you prove yourself worthy, you can be the next duke."
"What if you find yourself another kid like me."
"If you are the best, then you will be the next duke. That's what has happened in the past, and that is what will continue to happen."
'Should I be listening to all this?' I thought to listen to them quietly. 'Oh well, if they don't care.'
"What about my name? If possible I would like to keep it." Azai said.
"I don't mind "
And the quiet again took place in the room. It's not uncomfortable, but I'm just bored.
"Yawn, I will end up sleeping if the silence continues."
Neither of them said anything.
"Do you guys want me to start living here or something."
They said nothing. My gut is telling me if I don't leave now, I really will have to end up staying here tonight.
"I have to go; I have a meeting with one of my associates."
"You don't have an associate" Azai said
This kid really doesn't want me to leave.
"I do, people just don't know about this," I don't but really must leave.
"You might as well stay. The kid seems to want you here." The duke said.
"OK, no, let's put a pause here."
"What's a pause," they asked
"Never mind, I will be leaving soon. Discuss what you want to." I refuse to be roped in whatever this is. I don't like meddling in other people's families; I barely like being roped in into mine. "Have you decided on his education."
The duke looked at me for a while and finally said, "I've appointed some teachers. They will start teaching next month."
I nodded.
"Can I continue with studying under lady Kaia?" Azai asked.
"I wouldn't want you to," I said
"Why?"
"Because you don't know enough of what is out there in the world to be saying that there are no better ways to study unless it's with me."
Azai nodded. "Will I be allowed to go over to lady Kaia's place once in a while," he asked the duke.
"Do whatever you wish in that regard," the duke said.
"Then I believe things are settled for today. I really must leave now." I walked out of the room before either of them could say anything. And left the Ducal house in a hurry and made my way back home.
Everyone was still upset. I did the only thing I could let them take out frustration through sword training like I always did when I was upset. I don't get it, though. It's not like Azai is dead.
