-Davy-
We get downstairs to find everyone at the table: Samantha, Patricia, and Adam is home now I guess, and a man is at the head of the table, I gulp; Sadie's Dad, Mr. Anderson. I sit next to Sadie and feel eyes on me from all over the table.
"Would you like to introduce us to your friend, Sadie?" Asks Sadie's dad. Sadie looks at me.
"Everyone this is Davy, he lives next door." She smiles, "Davy this is my Dad, Adam, Patricia, and you've met Sam."
"It's very nice to meet you, Davy." Sadie's father looks me up and down. What is this guys deal? Sadie was right about him.
"Same to you," I say smiling.
"It's very nice to have you here." It's Patricia says, smiling, and at least she seems genuine.
"So, are you and Sadie together or something?" Adam says, staring me down. Why do all the guys in the house hate me?
"Adam!" Samantha says, "that's rude." He just rolls his eyes at her. I look at Sadie, not sure what to say, shakes her head and mouths "no," then glances at her Dad, I look at him, he's glaring at me.
"No, we're just friends." I answer. I look at Sam, she nods slightly to indicate that she won't say anything.
"So you're his f*** buddy?" Adam asks. This guy, what is his problem? Sam slaps her forehead. Patricia looks at Adam scolding. Sadie's Dad is just staring at me even harsher than before. I can feel myself sweating. His stare was just daring him to say yes to the question.
"No I am not," I say. I can see Sadie relax. Her Dad doesn't stop staring until Sadie says,
"Dad, can I talk to you in the kitchen, now?" Without a word, he gets up, his eyes not leaving me. I can hear them in the kitchen as the rest of us eat the potatoes on the table, silently. I pick up snippets from what they're saying in the kitchen. "f*** buddy? Really, Sadie?"...... "Dad, you need to quite being a f***ing d*ck to Davy!" ....... "You need to watch your mouth-" ..... "Well you need to remember that you didn't give a f*** about my life until this guy showed up, it's a little late to be the protective father! I don't care what your opinion is, so can you please cut it out and f*** off!" I tune out. But why didn't she defend herself about the f*** buddy comment? I don't want to hear what her Dad says to that. She doesn't let anyone give her crap, that's for sure, not even her Dad.
"So, Davy." It's this Adam guy again. "What are you doing here?" What kind of a question is that? This guy seems like all talk. Sadie's Dad scares me, but this guy, I could take. So I answer the question truthfully,
"I am spending the night." I say, giving him a stare that Patricia can't see. Drake looks at his mom. She nods, smiling at me. I think Sam is rubbing off on her mom. I smile. His eyes widen. Sam holds back a laugh.
"You are her f*** buddy." He says. Patricia rolls her eyes, knowing that Adam will keep cussing all he wanted. He is about to get up and say something, but I give him a look. I mouth, "don't even go there." He sits, and turns back to his food, I hope he's scared of me. I think. Samantha shoots me a "good job" look. Just then, Sadie walks back in, but her Dad isn't with her. I look at her, she doesn't look at me though.
"Would anyone like some more potatoes?" Patricia says, trying to lighten the mood. Then I realize that I have never heard Sadie cuss before, although I assumed she did.
