-Davy-

My alarm goes off at a more reasonable time today. I get up. I purposely let myself sleep in. I put on some jeans and a t-shirt. I start putting on my shoes and decide to that I should wear a jacket. It's supposed to be cooler today. I grab my sweatshirt. I put my phone as well as some money into my pocket and head downstairs.

I find my sister, Kate, making some coffee in the kitchen.

"Good morning," I say. I always try to be polite to my sister. We are friends, but I wish we were closer.

"Mornin' Davy." She says, not looking up from her phone. "You hungry? I made toast." She points to a plate with some buttered toast on it.

"Thanks, I am pretty hungry, but since when do you make me breakfast?" I ask, walking over to the plate at the counter.

"I've made you breakfast before."

"Ya, like five years ago," I laugh. I roll my eyes.

"True." She looks up from her phone, "I'm just making you breakfast because I love you, unless of course there'd be a reason you know that I don't?" She smiles, slyly.

"Ha, you do want something. First you made breakfast, then you said you loved me, you never say that, then you made that comment, then that smile!" I give an accusatory glare. Then add, "I do know a lot of things, you don't though." I raise an eyebrow and laugh.

"Hey, you know that's not what I meant." She says, I shrug and skake my head. I have no idea what she's talking about...unless....no...she couldn't possibly know.....about Sadie? "Where were you at five in the morning yesterday?"

"Oh, that's what you meant." I say, "You're bad at making a point."

"And you're bad at answering a very simple question." She raises her eyebrow. Sisters can always somehow avoid insults with the best comebacks. How they do it is a mystery.

"Why do you care?" I ask.

"Here we go," She says, I just roll my eyes. "Because I'm supposed to be watching you while mom and dad are out of town, and last time I checked, letting you go random before the sun is up is not watching you."

"The sun was rising." I say. But she ignores my remark.

"And I'm your sister and I don't want anything bad to happen to you." She's raising her voice now. "I love you Davy, and I don't say that enough, and I need to pay more attention to you, I have my own issues, but I still need to be a good sister."

"You don't say that you love me enough," I exhale. "I went to my secret beach. And Sadie was there."

"Wait seriously? Like, Sadie Anderson, our neighbor, the one that is in that house right now?"

"Yep."

"What happened?" She asks, reading me.

"Nothing," I can say that honestly because nothing did happen. "We just talked."

"You sure?"

"Yes! What woulda happened?"

"You totally like her."

"I do not!"

"Okay, then."

"I do not have a crush on Sadie, so stop it, okay?" She nods and sips her coffee. I sit to eat my toast, finally. It satisfies my hunger even though it'd cold.

I walk through the neighborhood. The sun's behind some clouds. It's kinda windy today too. Even still, the sky is the deepest blue I've ever seen. The streets lined with houses fade into the town square and main street.

The square is just one long road lined with shops, stores, and restaurants. The café is on the boardwalk, which is which is a left just up the road. I walk through the storefront, it's quiet and there are hardly any tourists walking in and out of the shops.

I turn left and onto the boardwalk. I always love the boardwalk, it makes you feel as if you're walking on water. The boardwalk is a bridge that doesn't lead anywhere, it just stops after it goes a ways out on the water. I can see surfers bobbing on the waves. The sunshine reflects on the water, it's almost blinding. I can hear the waves rushing under the boardwalk, it's calming.

Sometimes I'll walk under the boardwalk and look for muscles and crabs. It's cool and damp down there, but still feels warm somehow. I keep walking. There are only two shops on the boardwalk: the café and a surf shop that also acts as a place to rent watercraft. I walk into the café. It's almost abandoned except for the staff.

I go back out and lean against the railing of the boardwalk and just relax for a minute while waiting for Sadie. I stare at the ocean, there are no clouds in the sky anymore. The wind is blowing up mist from the waves crashing below. The sun is glistening and I take in a deep breath of fresh air. I close my eyes for a minute.

Why was my sister pestering me so much? Why does she care what I do, and why did she seem shocked about Sadie? It's not like we're gonna date or something. Kate used to never give me a second thought and no she's making me breakfast and wanting to "talk." She shouldn't be worried about Sadie, she should be worried about my friends, they've been more stupid than ever lately. They never wanna just hang out. All they wanna do is talk about girls and play video games and go to parties. And I don't like parties. Bad things happen at the kind of parties that they go to. I mean, Max and Jack might actually hang out if Trevor wasn't controlling them all the time, plus Trevor and Andrew are always fighting. But I- I feel a tap on my shoulder and it snaps me out of my deep thoughts.

 Sadie.
