DEMIR POV
"Tamam, schedule it then, let the meeting be in the restaurant facing the Bosphorus... yes the usual, something else?... No, tell them I'm not interest... I don't care Ayda, I do not work with family companies, you know that already... Tamam... that's it?... Then I'll see you tomorrow at the office"
What a horrible weekend it had turned out, I had promised Aslı that I'll spend the whole weekend with her, but 4 new costumers had shown up on Friday which led to a huge amount of work load, enough to make my weekend a complete failure. I sighed and rubbed my face, I was already tired but I managed to stand up from my desk and go looking for Aslı.
"Aslı? Kızım neredesin?" I went up the stairs into her room. When she was born, her mother and I designed for her the most beautiful princess like room, it had clouds painted on the ceiling, and some of those stars that shine when it's dark. She loved her room, especially the stars. But when heaven fell down and hell broke in, that house went from a dream to a nightmare, I couldn't stay there anymore, I no longer wanted to see those walls that only brought memories I wanted to forget, no longer wanted a house with many rooms that would never be filled, I didn't want to look around and be eaten away by broken dreams, I no longer wanted that house, no longer wanted that city...no longer wanted that life. So I took my 3 year old daughter and left Ankara never looking back and brought her to the house I grew up in Istanbul. I wanted a new life for her and me, where we wouldn't look at the past anymore, but only at a future made just for both of us.
The house was perfect, It was in a calm neighborhood, a smaller house, with fewer rooms, for just me and my daughter, for the rest of time.
I admit though that it was difficult for Aslı, she'd constantly wake up with nightmares, crying for a mom that was no longer with us, I wouldn't know how to calm her down, so one night, out of desperation, I took her to the attic in the 3rd floor where there was a glass kind of ceiling that blanket over a part of the space and connected to the window on the wall, from there you could see the white moon and the brilliant stars, so real but so magical. When Aslı saw them, she stared at them for a long time, her crying soothed and eventually she fell asleep. I redesigned the attic and turned it into a beautiful room for her, and from that moment I felt our lives starting again.
I got into her room, she was lying on her bed coloring in a notebook, I smiled to myself, she was so peaceful, I knew even if we couldn't do everything that we wanted, she wouldn't get angry at me, she was that kind of a child, I was blessed with an angel.
"Napıyorsun canım?" - I walked to her bed and sat beside her.
"I'm drawing Karamuk baba"
"Karamuk? Who's that? - I said while caressing her hair.
"He's a dog without a home baba, I named him Karamuk - She smiled big at me - Do you think we could adopt him?
I smiled back at her, but denied with my head "If I said yes to each time you've asked me that question, we would need a huge mansion for all the animals that we'd have, don't you think?
"Well... if you say yes this time I'll stop asking this question" -She giggled at me and I chuckled with her.
"Ha-ha" - I said with a mocking tone - you're too smart for your age prenses, now lets go it's bath time.
"Tamam, tamam" - She sat down on the bed and then turned to look at me with a naughty smile - "I'll race you down stairs"
She sprinted off towards the door but I had already see it coming so I jumped from the bed faster than her and grabbed her before she could reach the door.
"What did I say about No running on the stairs?" - I lifted her to my shoulder so her head was hanging on my back and her legs where hanging on my chest.
"Baba!!" - her laughing was contagious - "Baba put me down!!" She kept laughing and I couldn't help it, I was laughing with her already.
"Never!! I'll take you everywhere like this!!"
"No you wont!"
"I wont?"
"You wont cause you're too old and your back will hurt!"
"You little troublesome!"
Our laughs could be heard through out the house and even if life wasn't how I wanted it to be, these moments reminded me why I was still trying... still living.
