I walked out to the cuttlefish tank, greeting them while waiting. It's two thirty, and I can see mutants arriving.

"Venus, my boy."

I turned to see the older man from the other day, solemnly smiling at me.

"You change your mind?" He asked.

Before I can answer the others begin showing up in droves, all letting the man know they had arrived. It's not surprising that he's the head of this migration.

As people filed in, and the man took headcount I could feel a cold sense of sorrow at the sheer amount of hopeless people. People who don't feel like we can live peacefully with non-mutants, people who are so desperate for a way to run that they're literally leaving the planet. I wish I could make them see that running isn't the answer.

Suddenly, two of the elder members revealed a rocket they had previously been cloaking. People started lining up as the head count was redone, when the man looks over to me.

"You gotta stand in line for the headcount son."

I smile sadly at him.

"I'm not going with you." I respond.

The small crowd of people looking over to me in shock and confusion.

"I came to thank you for inviting me, and to wish you all safe travels, but I'm staying here. I can't in good conscious run away, knowing the future generations are relying on the rest of us staying to fight for our rights and peace." I smile confidently.

The man stares at me a moment before smiling sadly, but understandingly.

"Thank you, for coming to see us off. I wish you luck and safety in your ventures as well. Be safe, be careful."

With a firm hand shake, he turned to the line of people and gave them one last chance to change their minds.

To my delight, a few of them stepped out of line to join me. I shake every one of their hands, smiling at them before they start walking off to go home.

I watch the final headcount, boarding, and the ship firing up. When it starts lifting I see the energy of other mutants blanket over it holding it down, when out of nowhere I hear a dozen others running up.

"Get him!"

I block the woman's sword with my arm, throwing her back several feet into another person.

"We got a metal skin!" Another shouted.

Might as well play along.

I coat my skin and rush the most powerful mutant, knocking them out cold before running to take out the rest. They shoot energy and elements at me, bullets even, but none of it hurts. Not even a scratch. Two minutes is all it takes.

Finally knocking the last of them out, the ship erupts into the atmosphere and safely resets on course. Thank God.

Looking over the attackers, they all adorn matching cloaks with the Mutant Incipiency symbol embroidered in the center.

Fighting off the usual exhaustion I think of Yezimee arriving with the recruits soon. I have to tell her this happened.

"Are you sure you can't go with us? Mark, Amy, Beth and Sam are all coming." I asked.

"I'm sure, I have some duties to attend to, what with finally being back and all. I'm sure I'll meet your friends later!" Michael chuckled.
