Clark still didnt know everything about Katherine but he was willing to learn all he could about her and about her life. He was only in his 30s she was 1300 and had seen so many things, in just the short time they had been together he had seen so many that wanted her both to worship and to kill. He knew at the times had seen, she was a monster but she was human once and he wondered if he could find that part of her in her dark heart. Katherine seemed allot more tired than she had been when he first met her, the wounds on her arms had not healed properly, like he had seen before.
"I'm sorry." She whispered.
"You're fine just rest. I'm going to call Bruce and see if he can get us some more blood for you. I hate even suggesting this, would you heal better if I took you to the source?"
"I don't know. Clark I have lived a long time, this is the first time someone has taken so much blood from me in such a short time, and to use my magic while I was already weak didn't help. I'll rest, I should be fine."
"Alright, I'll call Bruce." Clark stood and headed into the other room. He reached for the phone, he didn't want to ask for more blood but he knew if he didnt she would die.
"Yeah Clark?"
"I need more."
"Still isn't any better?"
"No, the wounds on her arms haven't healed, I could give her my blood but I am unsure in her weak state she would be able to stop drinking."
"I'll be there in an hour."
"Thanks Bruce."
"No problem, I can tell she means allot to you."
Clark hung up and looked toward the bedroom, and walked back into it with her. She turned her head and looked at him.
"Why are you so worried?"
"The wounds on your arms have not healed, you grow weaker by the hour. I can't let you die."
"I will not die, as an ancient vampire my body will finally shut itself down to basically repair itself."
"How?"
"Basically what humans call a coma."
"How long?"
"Days, weeks, months. I don't know. It's never happened to me."
"Katherine I can't loose you. I already lost Lois I can't lose you."
"I just need to rest."
"I know." Clark said to her. He watched as she drifted back to sleep. He walked out onto the balcony and looked at the city below, he could hear everything, the cries for help, the shots in the night, yet he stood on the balcony looking down because he couldn't leave her. He couldn't lose another one, he wasn't able to help the other, to help Lois with all his strength and powers he could not help save her. But with Katherine he almost had an equal, someone with his strength, speed and stamina. He wanted to be the one that filled the hole that was there in her heart. 1300 years is a long time to live and to live without love. Clark turned and headed back into the apartment as he heard a knock at the door.
"Come in Bruce." He said as he opened the door.
"How is she?"
"I have no idea. Everything short of dying. She said she heard that her body could have her go into a coma. I have no idea. Do you have a way to get blood from me?"
"Just the kryptonite would probably be the only way."
"I want to see if my blood could help her heal."
"Have you offered it to her?"
"I wasn't sure what would happen if I did."
"Let's come to that if we need to, let's give her this first if it happens we will give her your blood, but she will have to drink directly from you,"
"Alright." Clark took the cooler and headed into the bedroom. He looked at her, he sat down on the edge of the bed and sat the cooler down and touched her face. Her eyes slowly opened and she looked at him.
"I have some more for you."
"Thank you." Katherine smiled but she could barely keep her eyes open as they closed and her breathing slowed.
"Katherine? Katherine." Clark touched her face.
"Bruce we have a problem."
"What happened?"
"I've lost her." Clark said.
"Clark, she's still breathing, her heart still beats."
"Bruce, as she is what she is, her heart stopped beating centuries ago."
"No, she told me once her heart always has beating. That she has a pulse like any other, she breathes just like we do. She feeds on blood because it is what keeps her alive. Centuries of living has kept her knowing what she can and cannot do. Her body needs to heal. She as she told you has slipped into a coma. We will find a way to bring her back."
"Alright." Clark said looking back at Katherine and moved the cooler to the other room. He wondered if he could handle knowing she was there but not.
"We could move her to my mansion."
"No, she stays here. I will keep her safe."
"You have a city to defend as well, so do not forget about that."
"I won't. Thanks Bruce."
