Everything was hazy. Someone was holding me and carrying me. My mind was too numb to notice anything. I had fainted.

"Eve will marry Josh." My mother's words kept ringing in my head like a broken record. World was spinning around me so I closed my eyes shut.

I opened them slowly when I heard a soft thud. A door opened and I was inside my room. My head was pounding and vision was blurry. What happened sometime back didn't feel like real. Maybe it wasn't real.

I could see someone laying me down on my bed. It must be Eli, who else would it be. I softly placed a palm over his cheek, "Eli, Thank God you are here. I had a bad dream. Don't leave me please. I love you so much."

"I'm not leaving you ever, Cherry."

I smiled but something was not right. That voice was not of Eli. The dream wasn't over yet. I drifted off into sleep, too tired to stay awake.

When I woke up, sunlight was peeking in the room through the half closed curtains. A cold breeze engulfed my body and I shivered. A hand put a duvet around me. Sunlight had blinded my vision partially.

"Eli?" I muttered.

"It's Bri, Eve. How are you feeling?"

"Tired. Can you get me a glass of water please?"

"Sure."

I tried to sit up but my body wasn't ready. Bri helped me get up and gave me glass of water. I gulped it down and handed it back to Bri.

I could see clearly now. Bri looked tired, her hair were messy. There were dark circles under her eyes.

"What time is it Bri?"

"It's half past ten."

"What? Did I sleep whole day yesterday?"

"Pretty much. Through the night too."

"Did you stay here with me?"

"No honey. It was Josh. He sat here by your bed all night long. When I came to see you, he was just sitting there looking at you. I don't think he slept at all."

This wasn't something I needed to hear right now. I didn't want to worry about Josh. All that mattered was Eli.

"Eli. Where is Eli? I want to see him."

"Honey, Eli is not here. He left."

"Without seeing me?"

Bri didn't answer.

"I want my phone. I will call him."

Bri came towards me and sat on the bed beside me. She took my hands in hers and carassed them. Tears started filling up rims of my eyes. I wanted it to be bad dream but it wasn't after all. It was all real.

I hugged Bri. We stayed like that for a while. She kept carrassing my hair. After a few moments, she said," Honey, Bridget told me all that happened yesterday at lunch. I'm so sorry."

I pulled myself apart from her.

"How did this happen Bri? I was so happy. We were so happy."

"I know sweetie. But if Eli actually thought what he said then it's better that it happened before you got married. You know how toxic such relationships are."

"No Bri. Eli isn't like that. He was drunk and he...he..." I knew I didn't have any explanation for what he did.

"Eve, I'm so sorry but it is what it is. Now you have to get fresh. If you want to talk I'm here. If you don't want to, still I'm here. I will get you coffee till you get fresh, okay?"
I nodded.
