The news of my tentative promotion had reached me through Kevin but I didn't really believe him. Today when I got the official letter, my mood was elated instantly. I had been working hard lately. I couldn't wait to share this with Eve. When I told her,she was excited for me. Only thing that bothered me was all my teammates were in New York.

And then Shona showed up. Shona and I had dated in the past and those were the difficult days of my idiotic glory. Shona was gorgeous but shallow and self centered. She was immoral and frivolous. She was raised to get everything by hook or by crook. My reasons for being with her were stupid but I was young and naive.

My family was not exactly what normal people mean by family. My father was hell of a businessman, but all he cared was for money and his business. Mom was no better, she was always too busy in managing her family's business to look after anyone, me included. My sister Anna, six years older than me, started taking drugs and most of the times all the communication that happened in our house was the fights over who was responsible for her drug abuse. But nobody had time to actually do something about it.

I was too young to realise what was going on. After few years, I started staying away from home as much as possible. The loud voices blaming each other for shortcomings, the banging of doors and throwing things at each other, you could hardly hear a word of care or love in that house. All we had was money so my parents made sure both their kids got everything the money could buy including love which meant we Always had great nannies and of course drugs in case of Anna. And then Eve came into my life. She was like a breeze on hot, humid summer day.

Eve's family was exact opposite. Caring but disciplined. Bridget was a psychiatrist, Richard was an oncologist. They treated me as their family, when I needed support.

As I started seeing what a huge difference our families had, I realized that I wasn't right for Eve, she deserved better person with better family. But My feelings for Eve were overwhelming. I used to be on the edge most of the times and couldn't stop thinking about her. To end the misery I was going through, I started dating Shona. It was stupid but that seemed a really good option back then. I was never proud of it.

Eve hated Shona and if I knew any better I would have thought she was jealous of her as well.

"Josh," Shona said in a cheerful tone and hugged me before I could stop her. I looked at Eve and she was trying to stop herself from laughing out loud.

"Hi Shona." I said managing to get myself out of her embrace.

"What are you doing here? Are you here following me huh?" She asked winking at me.

Yeah like I had no better work to do than to follow her.

" I am here with Eve, of course you know Eve." I put my arm around Eve's waist and pulled her closer. But she shrugged my arm and moved away.

Shona looked at Eve with contempt.

"Oh hi Eva, I didn't see you there."

This woman just bumped into Eve and had audacity to say she didn't notice her. I was getting annoyed with her already . As I opened my mouth to snap at Shona, Eve gripped my hand tight with hers. I looked at her and she shaked her head. Shona was oblivious.

"Hi Shona, how are you?"she asked almost sounding happy to see Shona.

"I'm fine Eve. How r u ?" Shona asked just to get formalities out of the way.

"I'm good."

"So what brings you here, Josh? You were in New York right?"

"Yeah I was. We just needed to buy some stuff. " I avoided telling her that I was moving here.
