LUCA'S POINT OF VIEW
I gave my father a quick but polite nod, "What are you doing here?"
Confusion flooded over me and I couldn't help but wonder why he was even here. He almost never came around since I moved out of the house. Him and mother stayed back in the house that I grew up in, but it never felt quite like a home to me. My childhood wasn't a pleasant one. Sure I was spoiled brat who got everything I ever wanted, but with the constant flow of business associates, clients, or other men flooding the house, it was never peaceful. Along with all my father's mistresses coming around when mother was away.
My father pushed himself off my desk and glanced around my room, "It's quite a mess in here, don't you think?" I ignored his complete disregard for my question and kept my gaze focused on him. "Your maids outta be taught a lesson."
I shook my head, "Where's mother?" Ignoring his comment I walked back behind my desk, sitting down in my chair and resting my elbows onto my disheveled desk.
My father turned to face me, "She's back at home resting, she was tired."
That was a lie. He didn't want her here for some reason. She would've never turned down seeing me. She had a soft spot for me, and so did I. I inhaled deeply and pinched the bridge of my nose, feeling a new wave of stress wash over me. There had to be something he wanted to tell me.
He plopped down onto the chair in front of my desk, crossing his legs and stretching back his arms lazily. "What's the matter? You seem tense."
I looked back at him, feeling annoyance wash over me. "Just been a little stressed is all. Although, you were right about Stefan. He was lying about the rat."
I saw my father's face crack into a devious smile, "See? What did I tell you?"
I quickly hardened my jaw and clenched my fists. "I will still be doubling up security like you said and-"
He quickly interjected, "Security has already been doubled at the casino. But I haven't been able to change the security codes on the vault without your approval, so if you would approve it-"
I cut him off, giving him a taste of his own medicine. "I will change the security codes, you don't have to worry about that." I noticed him tense but nod politely. "What about the trades? They are still on, correct?"
My father nodded his head once again, allowing a wave of relief to wash over me. There wasn't a rat trying to turn our clients against us after all. I felt a sense of happiness wave over me and I could finally ease my breathing.
"Yes, the next one will be in a few days. I will let you know the details once I have them." I nodded at his response, reminding myself to fit that into my schedule and be prepared.
"No clients have been lost, swayed, or seem suspicious?" I inquired again, leaning back into my chair.
"No, everything is still in order. No word otherwise. The clients are still our clients and haven't tried or done anything." My father seemed annoyed with my many questions. I wasn't surprised in the least, he had always been like that. God forbid I take care of our legacy. "No word either on any plan to interfere with the trade coming up, either. That seemed to be complete bullshit."
I thought back to what Stefan had said about them knowing about the trade coming up. There was not even a date, time, or place, how would he know if they were even trying to interject without the details? I quickly wipe the thought from my mind. There was no need to worry on such matters now.
I nodded thoughtfully, "Stefan had told me that they were attempting to rob The Grand, and that they-" My father quickly cut me off again, his brows knit up in annoyance.
"Yes yes, you told me. They were planning to rob The Grand, knew the security codes from some fictitious rat, attempting to steal and turn our clients against us, and interjecting on the trade coming up." My father snapped in boredom.
I narrowed my eyes, feeling angry at him. He was really giving me shit for being so cautious with this? My father said nothing further, only giving me a stern look.
"Well now that this has been taken care of," I flicked my eyes over to him. "is that the only reason you came?"
My father let out a sound that kind of sounded like a chuckle, but it was a lot more harsh. I flinched back and rested my arms on the armrests of the chair. "Can't a father visit his son?"
I shot him another stern look and he waved his hands in defence. "Fine fine," He sat upright in his chair, uncrossing his legs and moving closer to my desk. "I think it would be a good idea to arrange some sort of... party for our clients and such, since word has gotten out. I do not want to lose clients because of this.. mishap." My fathers face turn serious.
He had a point. We couldn't have our clients thinking that we didn't trust them, and that they were trying to screw us over for the Costello's. They needed to feel important and cared for, which bored me but it had to be done.
I also couldn't allow the Costello's to steal away our clients. We needed them. They were most helpful in creating more cash flow, and other business details. You scratch my back, I scratch yours sort of thing. I couldn't afford having them turn against us.
Although, I didn't need to worry about any of that anymore. The casino has more than enough security and I was about to change the codes after my father left. And the trades were still happening and running smoothly. I now knew that there was no rat among my men. They were all loyal. They knew the hand that fed them quite well.
"Yes, that sounds like a great plan. I will begin organizing and set a date in a few days, I have a few other matters to deal with now." I gritted. I rubbed my face in exhaustion, feeling rather tired from the lack of sleep I got last night.
My fathers gaze wandered over to me and I sighed, not knowing what to say anymore.
Until, I heard a screech coming down from the hallway and heavy footsteps pounding towards my office. I rubbed my forehead in annoyance, feeling a headache coming on.
My door slammed open to reveal a very, very pissed off Emily.
Hey guys! This is sorta a filler chapter and I'm sorry it isn't the longest and not the most interesting, but it adds to the plot!
Luca's dad has explained to him that everything is running smoothly and there is nothing to worry about. Or is there? Stefan had originally told him that there was a rat among the men, who was telling secrets and plans to the Costello's. So Luca needed to change the vault codes in the casino and double security to prevent them from stealing the cash, when he heard that they might be planning a heist. He also told Luca that they were attempting steal their clients, negotiate better deals with them, and interfere with their trades. Do you think he was telling the truth?
Hope you all enjoyed the third update today! Now I gotta study for my exam tomorrow, booo.
