My legs fumbled beneath me, causing Damon to grip onto me harder and haul me outside. The lowering sun hit my face and I sucked in a sharp breath, feeling my heart thump against my chest faster and faster. It felt like a hammer slamming against my ribcage every second, paralyzing me with fear.

"Ah, Luca, how nice of you to finally join us." Damon said casually as we all stepped out in the front of the gas station. My eyes snapped up to Luca's, not even realizing that he had pulled up and was stepping out of the SUV.

My eyes followed him as he locked onto me. He stepped forward quickly, causing Damon to yank me back against him and place his hand over my chest. I tried to step forward too, but he had me trapped against him.

"Luca!" I called out and fought Damon's hands, only earning a sharp shove to the ground. My knees and palms hit the ground and I cried out, feeling tiny pebbles dig into them painfully.

"Emily." He stepped towards us, causing Jacob to step up onto him. He blocked my view of Luca, and my eyes averted to the SUV, hoping to see Tyler or someone else climb out. But nobody did. Luca came alone. He must've left before I told him about Damon showing up. Or he didn't want anyone else coming with him, which made sense. He was really stubborn like that. He must've been barking orders at Tyler to stay put at the house, then.

"Not so fast." Damon bent down next to me. "This wasn't the original plan. If you little pet here listened and obeyed, this would have been a lot different." He gritted and pulled at my hair, making me cringe away from him on the ground.

"I'm here now, give her over to me." Luca hissed and stepped away from Jacob, allowing me to see him better. I heard Aldo's footsteps travel towards the other side of Luca, standing parallel to Jacob.

Damon let out a deep chuckle, "That's not how this works, remember?" He started, standing up to his full height and pulling away from me. "This wasn't supposed to happen. We were supposed to arrange a meet up of my choosing, and you were supposed to bring the money." Damon hissed back at Luca, stepping closer to him.

I saw Luca straighten himself and puff out his chest slightly, "You don't have to do this. Let her go with me and I will give you the money." Luca tried to reason with Damon, but once again he wasn't having it.

Damon shook his head frantically and raised his finger up, "No. I will take Emily back to my place and send you the meet up where a-bouts tonight. You're lucky I don't kill her right now." Damon dropped his hand down to his side and glanced back at me, giving me a dark look.

"You're going to kill her." Luca growled and I heard Damon chuckle again.

"As much as I would love to; you have my word that I won't." Damon gestured to his bloody shoulder and he hunched over slightly because of his back. I was surprised he was even standing right now, but I guess he was really strong.

"Your word means nothing to me." Luca jabbed in return, his fists clenched beside his body. His lips were pulled back into a grimace and his brows furrowed together.

Damon acted shocked for a moment, "That hurts, you know." He straightened himself out and turned towards me for a moment. "I'm not going to kill her, I wouldn't throw away that much money just because she's caused me some trouble." He gave a nod and I saw Luca glance over at me and then back at Damon.

He seemed to be considering his offer, and I kept my mouth shut. I wanted to scream, run, and hug Luca, but I couldn't. Instead, I stayed planted on the hard ground.

All of us turned our attention towards the road when another SUV started pulling up. The driver pulled up next to Luca's SUV and turned it off. I watched and tried to see who it was through the tinted windows, but I couldn't see much.
