Finley's POV.Time went by quickly and Gally and I only grew closer. I spent most days either going around with the others rallying against WCKD outside the wall, trying to come up with a new way to get inside WCKD headquarters or working on a device to get a hold of their controls.
While gearing up to go out to the rally outside the walls I toss Gally a gas mask which he barely catches, distracted by something in the sky. I follow his eye-line to find a grey WCKD drone hovering above everything.
"They've been doing more and more drone sweeps every week." He sounds frustrated.
"Hey, WCKD thinks you're dead, I'd bet you're chip's deactivated, they're not gonna find you."
He purses his lips, still looking at the drone. "That's not why I'm worried."
It's not long before we're driving slowly through the crowd of shouting people, Allen has the megaphone and is making very good use of it. I adjust my grip on my gun as I survey the crowd coming back together behind the van like a zipper.
I feel Gally nudge my side. "2 o'clock." I note the urgency in his voice, finding 2 o'clock in the crowd spotting a group of 5 mask-less lost looking people sticking out like a sore thumb.
"Is that... ?"
"That's them all right."
"Keep track of them, I'll tell the others." We quickly arrange to leave the vans out of the way and follow the group on foot.
"Surround them, we can't lose them in the crowd." I hiss at some of the others who move to either side of the group.
I end up trailing behind the lankier blonde one, he turns and looks at me also eyeing Allen and someone else to his right. As we push our way through the crowd to get closer the boy points us out to the other 4, one takes out a shiny handgun. I tense feeling very uncertain of what's about to happen, until the loud creaking noise of the machine guns starting to move, aiming at the crowd. Shit.
The crowd goes dead silent for a second before chaos ensues. By the first explosion everyone's scattered.
I barely manage to keep track of the immunes, fortunately for us they run towards the area with the most cover, the same area where the rest of the group and our transport was waiting. I manage to catch up to the short haired girl and in her state of shock easily push her into the back of one of the vans, Gally close behind me with Thomas. I look around to see everyone else being taken into the other van before jumping in the back and slamming the trunk closed behind me.
I sat stiffly next to Gally facing our two "captives". I couldn't imagine what was going through his head as he looked at Thomas. The last time he saw these guys he was dangerously drugged and forced to kill a 12 year old; Something told me their reunion might be a bit tense. Plus I suppose we looked a bit intimidating, with the gas masks and guns. I was just glad it wasn't a long drive.
The second we arrive the doors are opened and we rush the two of them out. The second van pulls up next to ours, commotion coming from inside. Soon as the trunk is opened one of our men flies out and gets pounced on by a slightly older man who starts messily beating him.
Thomas and the girl rush over to stop him, our guys aiming their guns at him. Idiots.
"Get back!" Gally orders our guys, we need these immunes alive.
Once the mans been calmed down by the short haired girl I'd grabbed, I move back, standing a bit behind Gally who's smartly taken charge of the situation. "Everybody relax, we're all on the same side here."
Thomas shakes off the guy who'd been holding him back. "What do you mean same side, who are you?" He demands.
Gally pauses for a moment, delaying the inevitable. He lifts off his mask. "Hey greenie."
I watch the looks of recognition and shock form on their faces. "Gally?" Thomas asks, not believing his eyes. There's a long tense moment, as Thomas' look of shock morphs into hate. Before anyone else has time to move he's socked Gally clean across the jaw and gotten in top of him.
"Get off him!" I shout, moving closer and pointing my gun at his face along with a dozen others.
"Stop, it's alright," Gally protests. "it's alright."
I'm about to turn my gun around and knock him out with the other end but the blond kid grabs his fist mid punch, stopping him.
"Woah stop!" He crouches next to him.
Thomas is almost shaking in anger, not breaking eye contact with Gally. "He killed Chuck."
Spite flares inside of me at his ignorance.
"I know, I remember, I was there too." His friend continues. "I also remember that he was stung and out of his mind." His eyes flick up at me holding the gun then back at Thomas. "Just calm down, alright?" Must be Newt, I see why Gally spoke so highly of him.
There's another pause where I consider knocking him out in case he tries to hurt Gally again. He shakes off his friend and gets off Gally. I put my gun down and give him a hand up.
"Thanks Fin." I nod. "Kinda had that coming." He rubs his jaw where Thomas hit. "Anybody else? Fry? Newt?"
"You know this guy?" Pipes the older man.
"He's an old friend." Frypan answers simply. I see Gally huff.
"How-how is this possible?" Newt asks. "We watched you die."
"No, you left me to die." Ouch, that one's gotta sting. "And if we hadn't found you when we did you'd be dead right now." I can't help but smirk under my mask. Gally shakes his head, "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Minho." Newt answers. "WCKD has him here, we're looking for a way in."
Gally looks sideways at me, quirking an eyebrow. I take off my mask, looking between them thoughtfully. "We can help with that." I tell Newt who only looks a bit more puzzled than before.
"Good," Gally continues, "follow us." He makes a move to walk away.
"I'm not going going anywhere with you." Somehow Thomas was even more stubborn than Gally's description.
"Thomas —" Gally starts but I cut him off with a scoff.
"Suit yourself, but Gally can get you through those walls."
