Gally's POV.I spot Finley as I enter with the other gladers, she's putting her gear down on a table near the stairs.
I hear Laurence before I spot him at the back tending to his flowers, his right hand man Jasper standing nearby. He's mumbling the same few things he's been mumbling on and off for the past two months. "Rose took my nose, I suppose" over and over again.
I place my gun next to Finley's and give her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. She looks up at me, her eyes trail over my bruised jaw then over my shoulder at Thomas, showing no discernible emotion, something I'd learned she was exceptionally good at.
I move further into the room, Fin moving to my left to lean on a table of miscellaneous bits. "Finley, Gally," Laurence acknowledges our presence, "glad to see you made it back. Jasper told me what happened."
"It was a slaughter. There's nothing we can do against those guns." I answer.
"No, but they can only poke the hornet's nest so long before they get stung." He says in his usual calm tone, raising a rose up to the space where his nose once was. "Now, who are these people? Why are they here?" His says sounding dismissive.
I open my mouth to answer only for Thomas to step forward and do the one thing I'd asked him not to. "We need to get into WCKD. Gally said you can get us through the walls." I look at him, somehow impressed with myself for forgetting just how stupid he could be.
Laurence looks at Thomas, not unlike the way he studied me when I first met him. Of course back then he looked a bit closer to normal to say the least. "Gally should know better than to make promises that he can't keep." I clench my jaw, wanting to tell Thomas off.
"Technically I said it." Finley throws out.
"I know you know better." He says passively.
"Well we can get him through the walls —" she replies pointedly.
"That wall is only half your problem." Laurence steps forwards using his cane, wheeling his IV next up him. "Getting inside WCKD is impossible."
"There might be a way now." I interject. "But it doesn't work without Thomas."
"Is that so?" He continues to move forward, this time addressing Thomas. "Do you know what I am Thomas?" I observe as Laurence gets very close to him. "I am a business man. Which means that I don't take unnecessary risks. Why should I trust you?"
"'Cause I can help you." He answers calmly. "You see if you can get me through those walls, I can get you what you need."
"What is it that you think I need?"
"Time." He looks at the near-empty IV bag. "Every last drop."
"Hm." He looks between Thomas and I. "Is that what I need?"
"WCKD has something we both want."
I can see Laurence evaluating the situation. "I'll tell you what, two can go for now, the rest stay here with me. Just a little insurance to make sure you find your way back. We have a deal?" He extends his almost rotting hand to Thomas, who takes it after a short moment of contemplation.
Laurence chuckles, satisfied. "Finley, Gally, show him the way."
I turn my head and exchange a sly grin with Finley who's jumped up, clearly excited by something new.
We lead the group to the opening of the tunnel systems where I crouch down and remove the grate on top. The guys move around it, looking down the hole.
"Here Gal." Finley hands me the ladder which I turn and carefully lower into the tunnel.
Just as I'm about to go down Fry crouches down next to the hole and stops me. "Gally, take care of these two."
I pause, I hadn't realized how good it would be to see him again, something familiar. "Yeah, and hey, stick with Fin 'til we're back, you can trust her." I spare a glance in her direction, she's smirking brilliantly.
"Be careful out there boys."
She says snidely, I nod and with that Thomas, Newt and I are down in the tunnels. I can only hope Thomas doesn't try to kill me again when he hears my plan.
