Gally's POV.All was going smoothly so far. WCKD had upped the security considerably, but if anything that just helped the four of us walking with Teresa blend in.
Finley and I had joined Thomas, Newt and Teresa close to the back stairwell door leading to sub-level 3. One thumb scan later and we're in. We move forwards guns up, about to continue down the stairs when the electric panels on the wall catch my eye.
"Hold on, hold on. Fin?"
She jogs over and examines the grey boxes. "I can get in here." She takes off her mask and I do the same to help her.
"Stay there." Thomas orders Teresa, getting the walkie from me.
"Drill here." Fin instructs, I do as she says while she gets out the gadget she'd been working on for Laurence—his condition for helping us. The electrical compartment swings open, and Fin appears beside me, focused. I move out of the way, but watch over her shoulder curiously. "This'll work." She confirms to the group.
"Brenda, what's your status?" Thomas asks over the walkie.
"Status is, I'm working on it."
"Copy. Just make sure you're ready on your end." This plan is shucking crazy, but with Thomas involved I guess I should expect it by now.
"Don't worry, you know I'm gonna be there." Brenda answers over the coms. Let's hope she's right.
Finley attaches one last wire to the black device in her hand and flicks a switch on the side. "We're in." She says proudly before magnetically sticking it to the inside of the electric panel and closing the door.
"All right," I get the guys attention, "lets go."
Teresa guides us down one more flight of stairs and short hallway to a large metal door. But before she can let us in someone opens the door from the other side.
With the element of surprise on our side we storm the room and take down all the guards inside in seconds.
"Get these cells open." Fin orders, pressing her gun to Teresa's back and guiding her to the control panels.
I grab the conscious guard closest to me by the collar and press my handgun to his neck. "The vault. How do I get in?"
"You can't." He pants back. Useless. I let go of him and inspect the vault door.
"Come on guys, come on." I hear Thomas ushering a group of immunes out of their cell.
"Guys," I get their attention, "this may take some time." I kneel in front of the door to get out the drill again.
"You lot, help me get these guards in to that cell." Fin says nearby.
"Shit." Thomas mutters. "He's not here." I hear him interrogate Teresa further, I try to focus putting on my goggles and starting the drill.
"Somebody's moved him to the medical wing." I can just make out Teresa's voice over the drilling. "Thomas, that's one the other side of the building."
"Okay, take me to him, right now." He orders, determined.
"Alright, I'm coming with you."
"Newt, no you're not. You have to stay here and wait with these guys for the serum."
"You can't do this on your own." Newt reminds him, "Minho comes first, remember?"
I finally turn to interject, "Just go, we're wasting time."
Fin appears out of the cell to my right where she'd tied the guards, "He's right we'll get the serum and meet you at the bus. Go save your friend."
"Fine, lets go." Thomas concedes.
"Hey greenie," I call as they walk away, "good luck."
"Soon as we've got the serum we're leaving." Finley explains to the kids as I drill. "We've got transport waiting out back, just listen to us and stay close."
"Almost there." I shout back squinting at the sparks. Another minute and I'm through. "Fin give me a hand."
We pack away all the blue vials into our small black duffle bag. "You," I hand the serum to an immune boy, one who looks more composed than the others. "you guard this with your life. You understand?" He nods.
Finley looks at me with a serious determined look in her eye. "Let's go."
"Stay down, stay down, stay down." I remind the immunes. We made it hassle free to the underground parking garage where Brenda should be waiting with a bus.
"Go, go, go!" Finley pushes them on. I eye the guards down at the other end of the garage. Fortunately they're all rushing to get in the building, not sparring a glance in our direction.
"Brenda, where are you? We're here." I say over the walkie, only to turn a corner and almost get run over by her.
"Come on, lets go!" She shouts out the window.
"Alright move!" Fin shouts.
"Front and back, front and back, lets go!" I instruct as we herd them on the bus.
"Wait, where's Thomas?" Brenda asks.
"I was hoping he'd be with you."
"We were supposed to meet them back here." Finley explains. Brenda's eyes widen in concern and she makes a move to step of the bus. "Wait, someone needs to stay with the kids. We'll track him down." She looks at me to confirm.
I nod along, thinking. "Just wait for us, okay?" I copy Finley, pulling my mask over my face, and with that we hightail it out of there.
We stop on the main street outside of WCKD, out of breath. "They must have gotten held up, they should've been back by now." Fin pants. "What should we do?"
"I bet if we make our way back to..." I trail off spotting three figures leaping out of a window. "Nevermind."
"Is that...?" Fin asks astounded, lifting her mask to get a better look.
"That's them alright." I answer watching them splash into the water bellow.
"Your friends are fucking crazy." She comments pulling her mask back down.
"Got that right."
