Finley's POV.

I smirk as Gally rolls his eyes at his own story. "I mean if it weren't for Minho he would've..." He trails off as the massive wall around the city finally comes into view. I watch him lean forwards in his seat to get a better look at it.

"It's really something innit." I comment, Gally just nods. "The walls went up a bit over two years ago now, along with the main reason we can't get in, no matter how many people rally on the outside."

"Which is?"

"The guns." I start. "There's one entrance through those walls and a few giant automated machine guns on either side of it. WCKD's only had to use it a handful of times so far, as a warning really, people got the message, stopped getting too close."

"You called this a city, right?" He leans back in his seat, thinking.

"Yeah, last one standing as it happens."

"Would WCKD have my friends there?" He asked, clearly trying not to sound as worried as he was.

"Can't say for sure but honestly I'd doubt it." I wished I had a better answer for him. "Far as we can tell the maze experiments are their main project right now, I'd bet with that number of subjects all in need of accommodations — so to speak — they've probably been taken to one of their other bigger compounds. Can't say for sure, WCKD's massive."

"Right." He says in a low voice, suppressing his disappointment.

"Listen, Laurence can be a bit skeptical of newcomers, honestly I have no clue what he'll think of having a 'munie with us." I look at Gally, "Just lay back, I know how to handle him."

"Anything else I should know?" Gally says stiffly.

I think for a second. "He doesn't have a nose."

"Oh." I bet he has follow up questions, he doesn't ask them.

We arrive not long after, Gally seeming increasingly anxious as we got closer, passing some people who were close to gone.

"Don't worry," I tell him putting the truck in park, "I've got your back." And I meant it.

"Picked up a stray have we Finley?" Someone who's name I never bothered to learn calls from the rafters.

"Seems that way." I shout back. "How's the big guy?"

"We just got him a new stash, he's in a good mood."

Perfect, I grin as we keep walking. We reach the stairs down to Laurence's office area, I give Gally one last hopefully reassuring look and walk down.

"Ah Finley, back already?"

"Seems so." I spot Laurence facing away from us on the far side of the room tending to some flowers. "All the hard drives were completely wiped like I expected," I pause, "but we found a survivor: an immune WCKD now classifies as dead."

Laurence turned towards us slowly, his eyes landing on Gally, who doesn't react. "You sure?"

"Positive, I found one of WCKD's scanners too. Laurence meet Gally, subject A9, immune." I say quoting the scanner.

"You thought it was a good idea to bring him back." He doesn't phrase it like a question but I answer anyway.

"'Course I did. We finally have someone who's been inside of one of WCKD's experiments, for 3 years." I see him start to smile as he studies Gally. "We have an immune on our side, who hates WCKD maybe even more than the crowd outside those walls."

He's quiet for a moment, still looking at Gally. "Well done Finley." He walks slowly towards us, rolling his full IV bag with him. He extends an arm towards Gally. "It's nice to meet you Gally."

He doesn't hesitate to take Laurence's hand, nodding firmly.

"Finley will show you the ropes around here."
