New update every Saturday!
But then the bass started to smile and nodded. "Good question. I don't know, to be honest. I try to make easy meals that don't involve a lot of cutting or frying, like rice with veggies. Rice is easy to cook, I can steam frozen veggies in the microwave. I also eat a lot of cereal and soups. When I have to pour something cold I usually put my finger on the edge of the cup or the bowl to make sure it doesn't spill, and when it's hot I put it on the outside and then feel for a change in temperature" Avi explained and stopped petting the husky to show her his hands. "They probably look a little rough, it takes some trial and error to make a good cup of tea.
Scott exhaled and pinched the bridge of his nose for a moment before he reached for some crackers and ate them.
Kirstie grinned. "And when you have to fry things?" She gently touched his hands, turned them and looked at how bruised and burned some of his skin was, especially around the fingertips.
"Well, I try not to, but when I fry I just listen to the change of the sound. When you fry an onion the sizzle changes at some point, same with chicken."
"But-" she sat up "how do you know it's not undercooked?"
Avriel shrugged. "I stick my hands in and touch it. And sometimes I burn them but that's the price I have to pay for a good piece of chicken." He reached for his can, carefully patted the table until he found it, then took a sip.
"That's so impressive, Avi. Thank you! I've always wondered and now I finally have answers." Kirstie touched his shoulder and rubbed it slightly before she pulled back.
The bass smiled lightly. He appreciated the small gesture, he appreciated how open and straight forward Kirstie was without making him feel like a weirdo. And he couldn't help but grin when he realized that he was able to do something everyone in the room with him wasn't able to do. Rely on his taste, hearing and touch to cook.
While the other ones were talking Avriel noticed how tired he was. Physical therapy that morning had been torture, his shoulder was acting up and the pain medication wasn't really helping, just made him tired. On one hand Avi really wanted to go home and sleep, but on the other he thoroughly enjoyed being with his friends and getting out of his apartment for once.
He had taken off the sunglasses after realizing that nobody would mind him just staring in different directions but now that he was getting tired he noticed that his eyes kept fluttering shut.
While Kirstie and Mitch were in a heated discussion about some bag that would soon be available Scott got up and kneeled in front of Avi, touched his knees. "Avriel?" he asked softly. "Do you want to lay down?"
Avriel thought for a second before he nodded. "Yes please." He emptied out the can and nudged Olaf off his thighs. Then he got up with Scott's help who made sure he didn't fall while he was trying to find his balance.
The husky raised his head and opened his eyes before he got comfortable on his paws again.
"Where are you going, Avi?" Kirstie asked and turned to him.
"Bed. I'm sorry, I had a long day and I am exhausted." He smiled apologetically and reached out, felt her taking his hand to give it a squeeze.
"No, that's fine! Don't feel bad."
"Thank you" the bearded man mumbled and held onto Scott's biceps while they made their way down the hallway away from Mitch and Kirstin. "I don't have pj's..."
Scott chuckled. "I can give you some. Do you want to stay in the guest bedroom? It's- It's not finished yet but there is a bed with a soft mattress."
"Can I walk without tripping?" Avi asked with a smile on his face. He knew Scott.
"Well, not really. Do you mind sharing with me?"
"No, not at all."
The baritone smiled and guided Avi to his bedroom, made sure the man didn't collide with the doorframe. He fetched pajama pants and a shirt for his friend and handed them to him. "I'll get you some water, okay? The bathroom is just straight ahead and you will find a new toothbrush in the first drawer on your right, its wrapped in plastic. Toothpaste is right next to the sink on the left."
"Okay, thanks!" Avi heard the door close and he changed into the clothes his friend had given him. He got ready for bed and slipped under the covers, too tired to stay away for another minute when he felt the cool fabric of the pillowcase against his cheek.
The door creaked softly and he thought Scott or maybe Kirstie would come and say good night until he felt the mattress dip and a wet nose on his forehead. Olaf gave his forehead a tiny lick, then walked in circles before he laid down in front of Avi and stretched his legs.
Avriel sighed happily, buried his forehead in the soft fur and then wrapped his arms around the large dog before he fell asleep on the spot.
He didn't notice the tall baritone coming in just five minutes later with a cup of water in his hands. He smiled when he saw his friend and the large husky fast asleep, sat down the water on the nightstand and disappeared back to the living room to spend the remaining time with Kirstie and Mitch.
"He's asleep, Olaf is with him in bed. Thank you for taking him with you, Kirstie. I feel like Avi really needed him."
"Oh of course, you're more than welcome Scott! I'm glad he's doing better and it seems as if he really trusts you."
Scott nodded slowly and looked at his hands. "He does, yes. It was hard in the beginning, especially with Caleb not being there but he's really improving. I want to take him grocery shopping too, now that he really seemed to be alright with you two being here."
