The routine of the forest camp was good to be adjusted to again. After Arendelle things had been tense between the Northuldrans but Elsa had noticed that people had been rather chippy recently. Usually people only came up to her when they needed help or advice, but now she found herself caught up in a conversation with two of the locals, a married couple named Nutmeg and Jean. "We always knew of each other," Jean explained, "but we didn't know each other." The first time we officially "met" was... hmmm what was it? 12 years ago?"
"Jean! It's 15 years ago?! How could you not remember we just had our anniversary last month."
"Right sorry, anyway I was netting salmon when this random girl goes into the river and just starts bathing herself. I was trying to find food for the tribe and here she was scaring all the fish away!"
"WellI lured you in. It was a sacrifice made in the name of love." The three of them laughed and Elsa fought her flight response. She wondered if her and Honeymaren's story was this cheesy.
"Mom! Mom! Mom!" Elsa watched as a young girl, the one from the Hotspring that had found the swimsuit started to tug on Meg's sweater. Desperate to avoid recognition, Elsa turned her face and rocked on her heels. "Mom! Mummy! Mu- hey. Queen Elsa!" Elsa sighed and turned to look at the girl. I was so close. So so close.
"Hi," she replied, bending down to meet the girl's eye level. The child stared at Elsa for a moment long enough to be considered weird and uncomfortable. Please don't say anything I have to cover up.
"Can you make me a snow Horsie?" Suprised, but sastified with the question, Elsa nodded and began to let the magic flow on her fingers. The girl stared in awe as Elsa put on her best show, the Horse was jumping over hills and trekking mountains in snowstorms. At the end of the track Elsa placed the delicate ice figurine in the palm of the little girl who smiled widely and took the horse with excitement. Meg smiled at Elsa in gratitude as her daughter skipped off, forgetting what she needed from her mom.
"Wow I will never not be amazed by that," Meg said.
"Neither will I," Elsa responded, admiring the glint of the sun off her fingers.
Honeymare righted the saddle on one of the reindeer, today she was supposed to teach some of the young ones to ride and she didn't want the saddle to slide down on them.
"I know I know, you like your saddles loose. It's just for today, and maybe tomorrow." The Reindeer sighed in its discontent, but he knew there was no avoiding it so he let Honeymaren do what she needed. "Okay that's one, two, thre- hey!" Honeymaren clutched the back of her head where something had just hit her. She turned around to see what it was only to find a paper airplane on the floor. "What is this?" She asked the silent room filled with reindeer. She unfolded the plane where there was a short message written inside.
Honeymaren,
Please do your best to get Elsa to Arendelle by this Saturday. I need to tell her something important.
Thanks, Anna Queen of Arendelle
By the unique nature of the letter, and lack of a rambling paragraph, Honeymaren could tell that Anna really needed Elsa, and had wrote the letter in secret. Just when things had gotten back to normal Honeymaren was given a new assignment. Surprisingly, she was disappointed at having something to do at all.
Elsa was skipping rocks on the river, or at least trying to when Honeymaren came up behind her and grabbed her shoulders.
"Boo!" Honeymaren yelled, receiving no response from Elsa except an unenthusiastic
"Hey."
"What are doing?" Honeymaren asked, trying to remain unsuspicious. She rehearsed what she was going to say in her head, she couldn't afford a mistake. Anna was counting on her.
"Ryder showed me up earlier with his rock skipping skills, so I'm practicing so I can beat him next time." Elsa explained, not losing focus on the river.
"Ah, well lucky for you, you are dating the 3 time rock skipping champion of the the Ancient Forest Tournament."
"The what now?" Elsa asked, finally peeling her eyes away from the water.
"Every year we have a competition within the tribe, we do all sorts of games, reindeer races, ice sculptures, rock skipping, spear throwing, you know, just for fun. The last three years I have taken home the rock skipping reward."
"Oh really?" Elsa asked, doubtful.
"What do you mean, 'oh really''? Pass me a rock and I'll show you." Elsa through Honeymaren a pebble from her stack of rocks she deemed good for throwing. Honeymaren cleared her through and moved into a greatly overdramatized throwing position. "Observe," Honeymaren said before releasing the stone and getting not 1, but 2 skips. Elsa's jaw dropped as she stared at the ripples in the water. She couldn't get one, and Honeymaren got 2.
"How did you do that?" Elsa asked, inspecting Honeymaren's wrist to make sure she wasn't cheating somehow.
"With a little technique. And that was a rusty throw, you should see one of my good ones." Honeymaren smiled at Elsa's maintained marvelled expression. Hmmm I can use this. Honeymaren thought.
"Elsa, I will teach you to throw on one condition."
"What's the condition?" Elsa responded, crossing her arms.
"You and me go to Arendelle this weekend and spend some time there." Elsa looked at Honeymaren blankly for a moment before saying,
"What does Anna want?" Confused, and now trying to maintain the secret, Honeymaren rambled trying to defend her position.
"What? This-this has nothing to do with Anna. Can't a girl just want to to go spend some time in a romantic kingdom with her girlfriend and go shopping all day and get freaky all night? I just feel-"
"Okay I'm going to stop you there. I can tell you aren't telling me something because no one says 'get freaky' and Arendelle is hardly a romantic Kingdom. You should see Corona, when those lanterns light up the sky... now that's romantic. So tell me, what did Anna put you up to?"
Honeymaren sighed in defeat and decided she might as well out the truth, Elsa wasn't going to go if she didn't know why.
"Anna sent me a letter through Gale. It was vague and just said that I had to get you to Arendelle by Saturday because she had something to tell you. That's all I know."
"See that was easy," Elsa laughed, pulling Maren in for a hug. "We will leave first thing Thursday." The two kissed and Honeymaren could've sworn this was the warmest Elsa had ever felt. Maybe it was because of the intense rock throwing, or maybe it was because something good was about to happen. They made out quietly behind a tree for a while before Honeymaren finally pulled away.
"As much as I love this," she said, "I need to go get ready and give the others a heads up on our journey."
"They're gonna think we are going on a sex trip!" Elsa called after Honeymaren.
"Maybe we should bring my brother since he's your new bestie and all."
"I thought about it, but I think I'll stick with the locket idea!!!" Elsa laughed as Honeymaren faded into the trees. She relaxed against the logs they had been leaning on and closed her eyes. Why do I feel so... hot?
Hi there I know it's been a while. I hope you like it! For anyone who doesn't know Corona (I know the irony right?) is the name of the Kingdom from Tangled, where Rapunzel is from.
