"How did you know where I was?"

Elena had questions that needed answers and she wanted them now.

"Let's just say that Edward is really good at reading people." Elena noticed how Jasper didn't order anything to eat. In fact she wasn't sure if she ever saw him or his family eat anything. She ate dinner with them but never really saw a piece of food go into their mouth.

"And you? You just happened to be with him?" She took a drink of her water.

For a second he chuckled but Elena wasn't sure if it was towards her or not. "It's a," he hesitated, "sibling thing I guess."

"Okay then." Elena shoved a piece of food in her mouth. Jasper laughed slightly. "What?" She asked as she swallowed her food.

"You are different from other people I've met." Elena raised her eyebrow at him.

"How so?" She placed her fork down and waited for his response.

"You are more of a lover of food than anyone I have ever met."

She smiled, "well food is just the best thing for me I guess."

"You always find some way to look on the bright side of things. You somehow always know when someone is feeling a certain way without even trying." Elena didn't know how to respond.

"When I'm around you, for some reason I feel happy. I feel needed. I have this," he paused, "overwhelming feeling of needing to protect you." Elena scoffed.

"Well I'm a big girl. I think I can handle myself." She took another bite of food causing Jasper to laugh. "What?"

"That's not what you said earlier when Edward and I came to your rescue." He pointed out.

"We were outnumbered." Elena huffed.

"And if you were not out numbered then you would have beaten those men up?" He started laughing.

Elena instinctively shot her hand out to smack him lightly. "Don't laugh at me!" She giggled along with him.

"But that's what you think. I think the second you saw the both of us show up, you were relieved." Elena stopped thinking for a second. "Of course you were. You were in trouble and thought something was going to happen to your sister and yourself. But when we showed up, you were relieved and for a split second happy that we were there." Elena didn't know how he knew that. That was another question that needed to be answered.

"How did you-"

"Know that? Well let's say that just like my brother. I can read people too. Just in a different way." Elena nodded but of course didn't understand what he meant.

When she finished her dinner Jasper held her hand and went and paid for her dinner and left the building. "What about Bella and Edward?"

"They left about an hour ago Elena." Elena blinked. "We were talking and you didn't notice them leaving."

"How will we get home then?" Jasper pulled out a pair of keys and unlocked a car. Jasper's Jeep was sitting there in front of the restaurant. But how did Elena not notice it before.

"Let's get you home. It's late." Jasper walked her over to the passenger side and opened the door to help her in.

The second they reached the Swan residence Jasper held Elena's hand and walked her to the front door. "Thanks Jasper. For saving my sister and I and getting me dinner." She rubbed her arms. Of course the night was cold in a place that's never warm.

"Not a problem. I would do it over again if I get the chance." She smiled at him. He was the sweetest guy she had ever met. No one ever said he would protect her.

The two stood in silence for a few seconds before she cleared her throat. "I should uh go. School tomorrow. After a long day we both need all the rest we can get. Thank you again Jasper." She turned to open the door but quickly turned back around. She leaned up slightly and kissed his cheek.

"See you tomorrow?" Elena didn't wait for an answer before she let herself inside her home. She sighed before locking the door and heading up to her room.

Elena took a shower and changed into a pair of shorts and an old shirt that was way too big on her. She was settled down in her bed before she heard a knock on the door. "Come in."

"Hey. I found some research and I really think you should listen to it." Bella sat down on her sisters bed with her laptop.

"Bella not this again. They're normal people just like us." Elena sighed.

"Listen Elena. When I touched Edward he was ice cold. And I know you're probably going to say something about it being cold here in Forks but no one is that cold." Elena thought back to the first time she touched the skin of her friends. They were all just as ice cold and Elena always thought it was because of the weather.

"It says something about Speed too! Now Elena, I swear Edward was across the lot with his family. You were there too! There's no way he could've got to me so quickly on adrenaline. No adrenaline rush let's someone move at the speed of light."

Elena thought back to that day of Bella almost getting squashed by a truck. She even let Edward make her think that he was next to her sister when she knew he was right there next to Alice. They were also gone the second the crash happened.

"Strength! He pushed the van away from me Elena. It should have hit me head on but it didn't! That's why there was only a small dent in the truck and a big one on Tyler's van!"

Elena was surprised. All these things were adding up in her head.

"Elena, I know I have never seen any of them touch their lunch at school. You spend more time with them than anyone else does. Have you ever seen them eat?"

Elena shook her head starting to believe her sister. "Bella what is this about?"

"Hear me out El. But I think they're vampires." Elena was in shock for a second before she started laughing.

"Bella there is no possible way they could be vampires."

"Elena I'm serious." Bella threw the book she had gotten from the book store at her sister.

"It adds up Elena I'm serious. Just please read it. I know I'm not crazy and if I am. You can tease me about it for the rest of our lives Elena." The girl sighed before picking up the book.

"Fine. But you owe me food if you're wrong." Elena pointed at her sister.

"Deal." Bella left her laptop next to Elena and went back to her room to get sleep for the next day.

That night Elena stayed up and read every sentence of the book her sister gave her along with every page Bella had open on her laptop.
