Caitlin and I get inside the dancing crowd, among all the partying guests. She's in front of me, moving her body beautifully to the rhythm of the music. For one second to the other, the rotating light comes across her pretty face and I see her clearly - the rounded cheekbones and flawless olive skin, the crystal blue eyes and luscious lips.
"What is it?!", she shouts happily, trying to drown the loud music.
"Nothing!", I yell back. "You are simply perfect!" She takes a grip of my tie with a seductive gaze and pulls me closer. She puts her lips on mine and we kiss, not caring about what others think, just being happy in the moment.

The next two days I try to spend as much time as possible away from my mansion since it's a total mess after the party. The cleaning company is doing their best to make the place sparkling clean, so I don't want to be in the way.

I spend the morning with Ryder and Sean at the hotel they are staying at. They won't stay in Jaxonrose for much longer, just until the following morning. Then they and Carter are heading to Singapore because of all the parties and chicks there.
It's crazy how much my life has changed since I moved back. About 80 years ago I would have been the one to suggest the trip in the first place.

We sit in the hotel's huge livingroom talking about the past, reviving old memories and easily enjoying ourselves.
The door opens and in comes Carter. I see how his body freezes as our gazes meet.
"Oh Zane... I didn't know that you were where...", he expresses himself nervously.
"Well I am", I answer, "What's going on?" He's tense and his body movements shows that he feels uncomfortable.
"I hooked up with Aubrey...", he admits and I understand that it's guilt that he feels, nothing else.
"What?", that's all that comes out when I open my mouth.
"Why would you do that?!", Sean yells angry.
"I'm sorry.", Carter begs, "I was so hammered and she looked so good, and..."
"It's okay.", I answer and they all turn around chocked. "I mean, I don't date her and I don't have any feelings for her. So she's free to do whatever she wants."
It's true, I can't control Aubrey's life. She makes her own decisions and she chose to sleep with one of my best friends. The thing is, I thought she had feelings for me, at least that's what it seemed like when she cried the other day. You never know when it comes to her, but I know her well enough to predict that this is her acting jealous.

"So you're okay with it?", Carter asks surprised. "I know I shouldn't have gone along with it, it's just...", I stop him in the middle of the sentence.
"Carter, I'm not mad. Aubrey and I broke up 1974, that's fourty years ago.", I explain, "And I have Caitlin now, remember?"
"Okay. Just know that I'm sorry", he says, probably still feeling like he has betrayed me, or at least our friendship.
"But don't you ever lay your hands on Caitlin!", I say ironic and smile, but he understands that I'm deadly serious. Carter laughs before he answers, "I won't", in the same playful tone.
