I run as though my life depends on it, and in on way it does. My feet move so rapidly that they become indistinct and blurred. The police chief can't keep up, so he disappears in the distance.
I'm rushing past the walking couple within the space of a second. In my fast speed I create a chilly wind that reaches their backs, and immediately the grip of their intertwined hands strengthens. When they look back I'm long gone. When I come out in the clear among the citizens I look back one last time, and with relief I see that the police chief is far from within sight.
I walk into the closest clothing store and buy the first enough good-looking shirt I can see. It's navy blue and has long sleeves, not too expensive. When I have purchased it I put it on and leave the one I'm wearing right now behind. To feel even more certain and secure I go to an drop-in to get a quick haircut. Then I call Sean and Cathy, explaining why I didn't show up.

The following day I spend the evening with Caitlin, I can't seem to get enough of her. She's all I think of. She's the first thing that reach my mind when I wake up and the last before I fall asleep. She's stuck in my head all through the day.
The evening is delightful, sunny with a blue sky. We are going for a walk in the blooming park, just holding hands and talking. Caitlin looks stunningly beautiful among the vibrant and growing nature, as she always does. I'm lucky to be hers.
"We have never talked about your family, how come?", Caitlin asks. I have always known that the subject would come up eventuelly, but I have hoped that it wouldn't. The situation got me thinking and the unbearable pain strikes my heart, she seems to notice.
"I don't know. It's not important.", I say to avoid it going further. "I remember you telling me that your father is a officer or something similar. But what about you mother?", I ask and try to sound intrested, in one way I am, but my thoughts are all about the horrible past that I desperately try to avoid and forget, it's to painful.Caitlin doesn't answer and I can tell by her pulse that something isn't right. She takes a deep breath and I come up with the conclusion that in the silence she gathers courage to speak up.
"She died ten years ago when I was thirteen." We apparently have more in common than I knew, and this time I don't mean it in a good way.
"I'm sorry, Catlin.", I say and I truly mean it. I feel extremly sad for her, who wouldn't? I want to know more: how she died and how she was. But for now I must content myself, because it is sensitive to talk about and now is not the best timing. We change subject and keep walking in the park. We reach the centrum were a huge fountain is placed. The rippling and dripping water sounds relaxing. All around it are dozens of pigeons, they walk around and emit a meaningless sound.
On the field of fresh cut grass children play fotball. They are laughing out load in their light adorable voices.
I look at Caitlin, she's watching them too, her facial expression is joyful and bright. Her lucious lips forming a flawless smile, watching them play makes her happy.***
"Here we are.", Caitlin confirms as we reach the front door leading up to her apartment. We stand silent for a while and I'm just wishing that she would be the one to break the ice.
"I would invite you inside, but...", she continues shy.
"But, what?"
"I don't know. I guess I'm just feeling
a bit inferior. I mean you live in a fabulous mansion and my apartment is not exactly in the best quality...", she says opening up and confessing her thoughts.
"Caitlin if you're worried that I would somehow judge you, I can promise you here and now that I won't. I will never judge you or in this case, your apartment. Non of those other things matters to me.", I confirm and reach out for her hand. She puts her hand in mine and nods her head smiling. "Caitlin I don't expect you to understand the world I'm living, but would you please just try to let me understand yours?" I can feel her tightening the grip of my hand as she answers:
"Of course." Without letting go of my hand she leads me to the front door. She dials the code, the door unlocks and we step inside.
