Caitlin and I hold hands as we walk down the main street of Jaxonrose. On all sides of us are shops and buildings so high that they might even reach the atmosphere's end. It's teeming with people in the city, they rush pass us - some in hurry and others not.

I'm used to girls looking at me when I pass by, but I will have to get used to this. For now it's not only girls who give flirting glances, but also guys who glances at Caitlin. I am aware that I have competitors, so it's in moments like these, when I'm reminded, that I feel extra protective of my girl.

I look up at the direction we are heading and remember how the street looked like when I grew up in the end of the 17th century. In my memories, I see the simple dirt road that is now a busy road with traffic lights. All the shops and high-rise buildings were just small privately owned stores. Further afield where a bank now stands was a grocery store placed. My family used to shop goods there when we were downtown, but now it's no more. Today, everything is so different. Without my memories I wouldn't even be able to recognize the place. It's crazy how much things can change in time.

All of the sudden I feel how Caitlin's pressure on my hand hardens and how her body gets tensed.
"What is it?", I ask anxiously in a quiet key, she doesn't answer.
The voice of a stranger reaches my ears:
"Caitlin? Is that you?", someone asks in an overjoyed tone. I look up and see a man. He's in my height, has broad shoulders and the typical business men look.
"Brandon! How are you?", Caitlin asks and she seems suprised and bothered at the same time.
"I'm great.", he answers and it's not until now that I notice the lovely woman standing next to him. "This is my fianceé, Amanda.", he continues.
"You're engaged?!", Caitlin bursts out, the news has chocked her.
"Yes. I can't believe it either!", Brandon continues happily and I begin to figure it all out. He must be her old boyfriend, maybe even the one she went to Austalia with. Why else would she act like this? - All tensed and chocked.

"That's great for you... I mean it, truly!", Caitlin utters and I imagine how hard this situation must be for her. "So you're already engaged...", she says to herself, I think. "after eight months."
Brandon is fairly good-looking as he stands there smirking at my girl in his stylish suit - it makes me jealous. He has a fine bone structure and strong arched brows. But then again, I can't spot any confidence in his eyes and his skin tone is very pale in comparison to my.

"Hi, I'm Zane, Caitlin's boyfriend", I say, taking control over the awkward conversation and Caitlin looks at me with a thanking gaze.
"Wait.", his fianceé Amanda calls out. "You're Zane? As in Zane Ashford?!"
"Yes.", I answer proudly.
"I'm in love with 'The A-ford's new collection. I'm willing to marry it!", she expresses herself ironically but she sounds very committed.
"Thank you. I'd be glad to give you some affordable discount coupons.", I grab my wallet, take out some coupons and hand her them.
"I can't thank you enough!", Amanda says and flushes as our hands happens to touch.

"So, Caitlin, are you still living in our old apartment?", Brandon wonders, trying to change the subject that circulates around me.
"No, I got a new one about two months after we broke up. I really like it. It feels more like home."
"That's great.", Brandon answers and after follows a moment of silence.
"I'm sorry but Caitlin and I have to go, we have a reservation at Claire's Café.", I say and Cailin looks at me amazed. She didn't know that I have planned on taking her there. It's the most expensive café in the city - every girl's dream.
"Oh, I'd love to go there sometime.", Amanda utters and sighs of envy.
"Oh I know, right? He just keeps spoling me with his money.", Caitlin says teasing and I could tell she enjoys it.
"Well, have a great day.", I say as a goodbye and nod greeting.
"You too.", Brandon answers and I put my hand around Caitlin as we walk away from them.

When Brandon and Amanda no longer can hear oss, Caitlin says:
"I totally own the break-up."
After all break-ups there's always someone who win and someone who lose. For example, if you get a new partner first, who has more status - is smarter, more popular or richer - you win.
Caitlin is right, she won their break-up. Brandon might already be engaged, but according to them Caitlin now has new apartment and is dating the billionare Zane Ashford, that's an obvious win.
"You totally did.", I say happily.
"High five for me!" she holds her hand high and I clap it. We laugh out loud and some people look at us, but we don't care.
