(The irony🤣)
Since it was the first year that Combined School was open, another letter was sent to each student on the weekend before the last week of school. Ripping open the letter, William read it over for the second time after a maid read it to him. He wanted to make sure that it wasn't a dream since it's impossible to read in dreams. Surely enough, it said:
Dear Mr Apex
As a gift for accepting the application and for coming to Combined School on a regular basis, myself and the rest of the leadership team have organised a week-long trip outside of the city. Most of your parents may have gone outside of the city. If not, you are free to bring back souvenirs if you wish. You must bring clothes to suffice for the week, but not too many. The vehicles that have been purchased will only carry so much as well as the students themselves. The school will provide food but you may bring snacks for the journey if you want. However, anything above a certain sugar level will be confiscated.
Anyone with motion sickness must bring motion sickness medication and bags with them if the occasion arises.
Best wishes, Ms Robin.
William almost screamed with happiness. Finally, a break from his parents for an entire week! He didn't even want to wait until the weekday came. His parents wouldn't mind since they've gone outside of the city multiple times. However, there was only one thing that worried him the most...
"HELL NO!" Layla's mother exclaimed at the letter.
"Why not?!" she exclaimed back.
"How should I know what you lot will be doing over there? I've never been outside the city! Besides, you can just skip school anyway. Not like it's doing you any good" her mother answered, walking away satisfactorily.
"Woah, wait a minute! Since when did you care about where I went or what I did?" Layla asked, stomping around so she could face her mother.
"Since you decided to go off and start killing people! Did ya think I couldn't see those horns of yours?! I'm your mum, for God's sake!"
Layla stood there, frozen. Of course, her mother would've found out eventually. But this wasn't how Layla planned it to go. "Mum, listen-
"I don't want to hear shit! D'you wanna know what happened to the last person who had those horns?" her mother cut her off.
Now she was just confused. "How would you know that?"
"How do you think? I was Envy all those years ago"
Everything was making sense. Jessie's warning, William's parents, her mother and Lily having a very similar appearance. So there was only one thing that needed confirmation. "What about...?" Layla trailed off.
"That wall was built to make sure you guys didn't reunite. If you did, it wouldn't be any different from last time. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this bullshit but just bear with it, okay?" she asked gentler this time.
Everything her mother was trying to do was to protect her. However, Layla knew that that wasn't the only thing she was hiding. In truth, her father didn't commit suicide because of her mother's enemies. He died because he couldn't handle the fact that she was Envy. He had a deep hatred for the Wall and when she told him what she did, he blamed her for everything he went through. All his torment was because of her. Nonetheless, he decided his own time was up anyway instead of divorcing her.
Layla didn't know what to say. Yet, one thing still bogged her mind. "So, what does this have to do with the trip?"
Her mother facepalmed. "Again, I'm your mum. Why else?!"
