With the sun glowing brightly through the windows of CS, Layla pulled her beanie over her eyes to block out the blinding sun. Not only that, but the mansions that littered the ground below also reflected it's white light into her eyes. William was already in the form room. She could feel his glare from the other side of the room.

For once, she looked up to find his eyes piercing into hers. Standing her ground, she glared back at him.

"The nerve you have, honestly," he said through gritted teeth.

"It's called self-defence, dumbass" she replied, looking him up and down.

"Filthy bitch"

"Go to hell"

"Ladies first"

"That's enough you two. I was just about to bring up your results for the exam you took at the beginning of the year but you will just argue on who's better. However, I'll give you both a fair chance" Mr Castel warned them, his monotone voice not adding to the threat whatsoever.

Looking away from each other, they remained silent until the rest of the class filed in. Mr Castel sighed and began to speak again:

"Now, I will give you the results of the exam you did at the beginning of the year. It may have taken a while to mark and correct because to be brutally honest, not that many of you did as well as you needed to. So, it will be ranked from best to worst and I will only read out the top three and the bottom three. If I do not say your name, you are mediocre but improvements can always be made. Is that clear?"

The class' collective hum answered his question.

"Alright. Now, let me see... Here it is. The top three in the school, from third to first, is Cade Humble from Class E, Jessie Lightwood from Class D and our very own Layla McCall at the top with an impressive score of 49 out of 50. Well done, Layla" he tiredly announced.

There was a small collective gasp from William's side of the room. Layla couldn't hold back the grin on her face as she looked at him.

"Now, the bottom three from worst to best. Third from the bottom is Rebecca Jinx from Class D, then Charlie Bleu from Class A and the worst is William Apex from" he sighed "Class C. I expected better, especially from the richest of the rich. I assumed you receive private education, but this 0 out of 50 suggests you didn't even try"

"That exam was beneath me. There was no reason for me to try" William bluntly replied.

"What about your parents? Won't they be disappointed?" Layla cut in, tilting her head in feigned innocence.

"Layla, this is none of your concern. William needs to learn his lesson and, judging by your attitude, so do you. When you get 50 out of 50, then you can talk. I have an activity for the both of you" Mr Castel said. "Come back to this room at morning break and we'll talk"

The pair exchanged glares across the classroom before form time had ended. Layla met up with her friends, Lily and the twins, before almost being tackled to the ground by Lily. "Since when were you so smart?!" she exclaimed, hanging an arm around Layla.

"Since I learned everything already at home on that old computer we got. This wasn't a test, to be honest," Layla shrugged.

"Well, I got first in my class and second in the school so..." Jessie trailed off, half-expecting her ego to be filled.

"That's still mad to me. I got tenth in my class and sixtieth in the school. But who cares about education anyway!?" Lily chuckled.

"I got last in my class and fifth to last in school. I was too tired after the first four questions and-
